Top Gear is one of the greatest forces in all of the car world. The original BBC show with hosts Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond became the most-watched show automotive show ever. Now decades later, Rob Corddry, Jethro Bovingdon, and Dax Sheppard are in the driver’s seat again for Season 2 of Top Gear America. 

How many seasons of Top Gear America are there? 

Top Gear America is dropping its second season on July 1, 2022, on MotorTrend+, and we couldn’t be more excited. 

If you’ve ever seen Top Gear of any iteration, you know that the name of the game is car “journalism” turned up to 11. Each episode (for the most part) blends a pitch of actual car information and consumer advice with a heavy helping of automotive horseplay that is unrivaled the internet over. 

The lads at Top Gear America did a lovely job picking up the brand’s ethos in season 1. We spoke with Rob and Jethro recently to get a feel for what we can expect with the upcoming season.

We kicked off the interview by trying to see what about the upcoming season left an impact on Jethro and Rob. The passion from the sophomore hosts spilled forth instantly. Rob began answering first with a flash story about hitting 200 mph in the Lamborghini. Before he could even finish that story, he dives in on jumping the Ram TRX then Jethro chimes in. Before we know it, these guys are gushing about their many incredible experiences on the show. 

This is the X factor. The thing that makes the Top Gear brand so special is that passion. The intrepid nature needed to go from Hot Tub Time Machine (big fan) to hitting 200 mph on the biggest car show ever is astounding.

Passion.

That’s what makes Top Gear work. This is the difference between YouTube stunts and the real deal.

As Rob is reminiscing about his 200 mph experience, Jethro seems equally as excited to have been there to watch his co-host raise hell in the Lambo. Jethro brings similar excitement when telling us about the racing drivers sabotaging Dax’s Honda minivan for the van racing episode. 

They both hit another level of child-like buzz when telling us stories about the junkyard episode. They guys were trading stories, finishing each other’s thoughts, and visibly stoked to even be talking about it. Both guys were laughing when Rob’s final words on that were, “I would do that episode all over again. So great!” 

Enjoy the Season 2 of Top Gear America

Jethro mentioned that he and the boys had a genuinely good time shooting. I mean, of course, they have fun. Being a Top Gear host is easily the best job on Earth. But to talk with them, the fun and excitement they exude are real. It’s simple. There is an honesty there that isn’t able to be hidden. 

I’m more excited than ever to check out the new season if for no other reason than I think these guys had a ton of fun making it. And as they say, “If you didn’t have fun making it, no one is gonna have fun watching it.”

On a lucky day, we get to hear Peter tell the story of his first car, a jewel of a 1958 Ford Fairlane, into which he dumped more time and money than made sense, but he has no regrets.
