Used SUVs and Trucks Could Be Getting Cheaper

While used vehicles don’t always offer the same safety features as new ones, buying used can save you a bundle. Whether you’re in the market for a pickup truck or luxury SUV, there’s undoubtedly a reliable, affordable model available. Some are available for less than $30,000. And it appears that used trucks and SUVs might …
2021 Aston Martin DBX | AM

Is the Aston Martin DBX Worthy of the Name?

As the SUV market grows, many high-end automakers are expanding their portfolios to keep up. Rolls-Royce and Lamborghini launched their first SUVs, the Cullinan and Urus. Porsche beat them both with the Cayenne, though, while Land Rover and Mercedes have been in the luxury SUV business for decades. But while some dismiss these expensive SUVs …

Is the Lamborghini Urus a Genuine Off-Roader?

Lamborghini, surprisingly, has made quite a few rugged off-road vehicles. Although considering Ferruccio Lamborghini made tractors before getting into cars, maybe that shouldn’t be so surprising. The Italian automaker designed a truck for the US military, a project which eventually spawned the LM002 pickup. So, Lamborghini’s SUV should be in good company when it comes …

Can the Range Rover Evoque Actually Go Off-Road?

Land Rover’s Range Rover may be expensive and have questionable reliability, but its reputation is based on honest ability. It’s not exactly a G-Wagen, but the Range Rover can, in fact, rove over a range of terrains. Jaguar Land Rover’s recent purchase of off-road tuner Bowler will no doubt further increase the SUV’s capability. But …

BMW Should Really Build a Pickup Truck Already

BMW’s X7 SUV has got the luxury game pretty much locked down. Then again, considering some trims cost close to $200k, it had better. But while the X7 offers 3 rows, comfy seats, and lots of tech, an SUV doesn’t always suit a buyer’s needs. That’s why pickup trucks are popular both in the US …

How Racing Leads to Better Off-Road SUVs

While racing trucks and SUVs look very different from what’s in the showroom, racers use quite a few production parts. Honda’s Unlimited Ridgeline, for example, uses the same engine block, cylinder heads, and crankshaft as the production truck. Ford’s Bronco R is based on the production SUV, and customers will even be able to bolt …

Why Pickup Trucks Need Good Brakes

When it comes to pickup truck safety features, most consumers tend to focus on airbags, seat belts, and crumple zones. But truck safety involves more than just those. There are the risks associated with going over payload capacity, for one. However, there’s one more thing that isn’t always considered: a pickup truck’s brakes. But as …

Which Pickup and SUV Features Raise Trade-In Value?

When it finally comes time to trade-in your truck or SUV, you want to get as much for your wheels as possible. Some models, like the Toyota 4Runner and Mercedes G-Class, hold out well against depreciation. Others, though, don’t. But making sure your specific vehicle has a high trade-in value can be tricky where features …

Are These Electric Truck Features Actually Useful, or Just Gimmicks?

It’s easy, with how today’s media consumption, for an automaker to market any feature as something ground-breaking. Especially with electric pickup trucks, a segment where manufacturers need to differentiate themselves. Some, like Bollinger, let the truck’s capability and design do the talking. Others, such as Tesla, can sometimes lean on sensationalist methods. Is setting up …

More Exclusive Than a Rolls-Royce: The Toyota Century

Exclusivity is a powerful coin. To know that you’re one of only a select few to have access to something. Sometimes exclusivity is deliberate—Lamborghini doesn’t want too many people driving Urus SUVs, after all. Other times, the combination of materials, design, and customization drive prices up so high, few can afford them. Such is the …

$150,000 Can Get You the Closest Thing to a Ford Monster Truck

Automakers have created some big and expensive trucks before. Mercedes turned the G-Wagen into a 6-wheeled pickup. Rtech Fabrications turns classic Chevy pickups into 8’-tall, 21’-long bro-dozers. And even when the manufacturers don’t modify the trucks, tuners will. Hennessey took a page from Mercedes and made a 6-wheeled F-150 Raptor. Long McArthur Ford has also …

Rtech Fabrications Makes the Classiest Bro-Dozers

Classic trucks aren’t always the most practical choice, but their stylish utility is part of their appeal. That doesn’t stop people from trying to make improvements, though. Some, like better rust protection or electric conversion, are meant to make classic trucks easier to drive and live with. But other classic pickup owners go for a …

Want a Test Drive on Your Own Time? Here’s How

Researching your next vehicle isn’t enough on its own. Yes, knowing how safe the Hyundai Palisade is compared to the Ford Explorer, or what standard features come with the Honda Passport—these are all important. And every SUV buyer wants a reliable machine, made by Toyota or otherwise. But while listening and watching people review cars …

Go Beyond the Pavement With This Overland SEMA Ford Expedition

While some SEMA builds, like the electric Chevy E-10 and Dodge D200 Lowliner, are high-end one-offs, quite a few are built with more attainable parts. For this year’s show, Ford brought in an armada of F-150s, Super-Duties, and Rangers to show off just how customizable the automaker’s trucks were. And the most common build theme …

Haul in Class With This Mercedes E-Class Crew Cab Pickup

For a luxury brand, Mercedes has made quite a few pickup trucks. Blurring the line between white- and blue-collar was the Funmog, a luxurious Unimog. The original G-Wagen could be had as a pickup, and right before the updated G-Class debuted, Mercedes brought the pickup back. Albeit with 6 wheels. There was also the X-Class, …

The Lada Niva: Russia’s Forgotten Off-Road SUV

There are quite a few rugged off-road SUVs that never made it to the US. Like the Nissan Patrol, for example, or the Mitsubishi Pajero and Jeep. Nowadays, with the 25-year import rule, it’s possible for Americans to discover what they’ve been missing out on. But there’s one SUV that usually gets forgotten, even by …

BMW X7 or Mercedes GLS: Which Flagship SUV Does Luxury Better?

Those who spend six figures on an SUV have discerning tastes. Customers like these are what drive Land Rover to make sure its Range Rovers can still ford rivers, even though most of their time is spent ferrying people to airports. It’s why the Rolls-Royce Cullinan can win rally races with little-to-no modification. And it’s …

Range Rover Mild Hybrid May Be the Best of the Bunch

Although Range Rovers aren’t the cheapest or most reliable SUVs, they are properly capable off-roaders. Even the cheaper Range Rover Sport, which is more of an on-roader, can genuinely wade through dirt. Though, while Land Rover knows its customers expect off-road competence, the company also knows most Range Rovers stick closely to roads, hence the …
