While the thought of a replacement to the Lamborghini Aventador seems crazy to some, it’s actually quite timely. Believe it or not, the iconic V12 raging bull is now 11 years old. It’s a bit dated despite its facelifts and, frankly, timeless looks. Consistently one of the worst cars in terms of fuel economy, Lamborghini is ready to update. Though there isn’t much official information just yet, there are some sneaky photos!

Someone spotted the new V12 Lamborghini in camouflage testing on the streets.

Car and Driver reports that this new Lamborghini is said to go on sale next year. So, we can assume what’s under that camo wrap is pretty close to production spec. Though the finer details are hard to make out by design, it certainly looks like this new bull has no shortage of iconic styling. It looks every bit as aggressive as the outgoing Aventador and then some.

It has sharp lines with some vast intakes in the front bumper. Alongside the vehicle runs a set of sweeping side skirts that eventually feed into a set of massive intakes to feed air to the engine. Equally as aggressive is the backside, baring a quad-exit exhaust system between a set of Y-shaped taillights. Finally, the sweeping diffuser setup in the rear looks both menacing and functional.

Furthermore, the yellow warning stickers on the hood and sides of the vehicle seem to point to it being a hybrid. This makes a lot of sense. Not long ago, Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann made several announcements about the company’s move to plug-in hybrids and fully electric vehicles over the next decade. This may be disheartening to some. However, adding a hybrid system to keep the naturally-aspirated V12 alive seems like a fair trade. Of course, the brutal acceleration enabled by adding electric motors certainly doesn’t hurt, either.

Lambo fans will certainly not let the Avendator go down in vain. We’re sure the engineers and designers are well aware. Besting one of the most potent and successful Lamborghinis ever made is no easy task. Just as a reminder, here’s what they’ve got to beat.

The already sold-out 2022 Aventador features the iconic midship 6.5-liter V12 engine that pumps out a whopping 769 horsepower and 531 pound-feet of torque. Its lightning-quick shifting dual-clutch transmission puts that power to all four wheels. The result is an eye-watering sprint to 60 miles per hour in just 2.8 seconds. After that, it will go on to complete a quarter-mile in just 10.4 seconds. If you dare, it’ll continue on to a top speed of 217 miles per hour. These are certainly not easy specs to live up to.

Overall, hopes are high for the new V12 Lamborghini. As with every member of this iconic family, seeing the end of a model’s production is consistently met with a bit of pushback and sadness. However, Lamborghini certainly has a track record of making the next in line faster, bigger, and more impressive. For that, you can’t help but be excited. As news about this new car continues to develop and roll out, the automotive world is anxiously sitting on the edge of its seats.
