It’s why many enthusiasts love to see these supercars in action. And in that world, two contenders command respect and props for their prowess — the Lamborghini Aventador and the Lamborghini Huracán. Both are fast, but each boasts distinguishing features.

What enthusiasts love about these two Lamborghini powerhouses

With its V12 engine and distinctive carbon fiber body, the Lamborghini Aventador is the definition of supercar performance. Lamborghini says these designs are “masterpieces” that merge aggression, technology, and luxury, making it a “legend in its own right.” If you have the budget, you can select from several Aventador variations, including SVJ, SVJ Roadster, LP 780-4 Ultimae, and LP 780-4 Ultimae Roadster.

Lamborghini has plenty to brag about with the Huracán, too. And not to put all of its design, style, and performance eggs in one basket, the Huracán harnesses what the automaker says is “more performance, more control, and more innovation.” This V10-powered supercar makes pushing speed boundaries a fun experience. There are seven variations: Evo, Evo Spyder, Evo RWD, RWD Spyder, Evo Fluo Capsule, and STO.

When it comes to safety, braking, and driving, the Lamborghini Aventador and the Huracán come equipped with the best. Both feature antilock brakes, brake assist features, traction control, and hill-holding assistance. They’re also loaded with comfort tech and the highest-quality interior materials. 

Acceleration and top speed matter to Lamborghini fans

When the folks at HotCars pit these two Lamborghini supercars head-to-head in a drag race, they were surprised that the Huracán was faster than the Aventador. In the quarter-mile drag, the Lamborghini Huracán proved it may be smaller, but it is still fierce.

The Aventador’s horsepower is greater, with its 6,498-cc engine that can produce 720 hp and a top speed of 217 mph. This beast hit 60 mph in a mere 2.9 seconds, quicker than the Huracán’s 3.2-second run. 

And on paper, the Aventador just seems built to be quicker and faster than the Huracán. The Performante model rates at 202 mph, while the 594-hp Huracán tops out at around 190 mph. But the test runs with these two supercars prove there’s more to consider than specs.

In another race, conducted by Car and Driver, the Lamborghini Huracán Performante beat both the Aventador SV Roadster in two rolling-start races. And the Huracán still came out ahead when raced in automatic and manual transmissions.

So if you’re a Lamborghini fan, keep these two luxury performance beasts in mind. But if speed and price matter to you, the Huracán happens to be more affordable and quicker in the quarter-mile. 

What makes the Aventador different from the Huracán?

When talking about key differences, engines vary. The Aventador packs a V12, slightly beefier than the Huracán’s V10. MotorTrend’s first drive in the Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimae suggests there isn’t a more monstrous Lamborghini out there, either. However, MT’s first drive in the Huracán STO suggests the smaller Lambo is one of those “objects in your mirror are closer than they appear” contenders. They call it the “Speed Racer” for a reason. 

Pricing is vastly different between these two Lamborghini favorites, too. The average cost of an Aventador is roughly $370,000, while the Huracán will set you back about $225,000, according to HotCars.

Weight matters, too, especially when comparing speed and performance. The Lamborghini Aventador has more power, but in some configurations, it also has more weight to carry — for instance, the LP 780-4 Ultimae roadster weighs 3,527 pounds. The Huracán Performante is nearly 100 pounds lighter at 3,429 pounds. But both also feature launch control, helping to achieve peak acceleration regardless of weight.
