If you’re in the market for a new Toyota Tundra, then watch out for one trim level. Apparently, the 2022 Toyota Tundra SR isn’t like the others. It lacks a crucial feature compared to the other Tundra models available.

According to Torque News, the 2022 Toyota Tundra SR trim has less power than the other models. This might not matter if power isn’t a primary concern. However, for some truck fans, power is everything.

The Tundra 3.5-liter V6 i-FORCE engine provides 389 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. The V6 hybrid or i-FORCE MAX setup cranks 437 hp and 593 lb-ft of torque. But the Tundra SR has the same twin-turbo V6, but it only delivered 348 hp and 405 lb-ft of torque.

When properly equipped, the new Tundra can tow up to 12,000 lbs. This figure varies based on 2×2, 4×4, cab configuration, and engine choice. But with the Tundra, SR can only tow up to 8,300 lbs.

This is plenty of power for hauling trailers, boats, campers, and more. However, it’s a little weak compared to the rest of the lineup.

What comes standard with the 2022 Tundra?

If you guessed that the 2022 Toyota Tundra SR is the entry-level trim, then you guessed correctly. It has an MSRP of $35,950. This price doesn’t include the destination fee or dealership markups.

Each Tundra comes standard with pre-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assistance.

The Tundra SR comes with 18-inch steel wheels, an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, keyless entry and start, LED headlights, and a sheet-molded compound composite bed.

This is the first out of 12 trim levels to consider. It does provide cost savings as the lowest-priced option if you don’t need more power for off-roading or towing.

Critics suggest that the Toyota Tundra SR5 is the best trim level. It adds alloy wheels, LED foglights, a rear center armrest with cupholders, and adjustable tie-down cleats in the bed. Plus, it has the towing package, which consists of a class IV trailer hitch, integrated brake controller, along with a four-pin and seven-pin trailer connector.

What about the Tundra Capstone?

The 2022 Toyota Tundra Capstone Hybrid is the most expensive and luxurious trim level. It has an MSRP of $73,530! The 14.0-inch touchscreen and standard air springs only scratch the surface of luxurious amenities.

With the Tundra Capstone, you get 22-inch wheels, a color-matched grille, chrome accents, automatic running boards, and the bedside step. The interior features black and white leather with walnut trim and an illuminated Capstone logo.

Plus, you get a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, 10.0-inch color head-up display, JBL sound system, a panoramic sunroof, and acoustic glass on the front doors. It should have the smoothest ride and quietest interior.

When shopping for your 2022 Toyota Tundra, be sure to study each trim level. There are plenty of different options to meet your individual needs. You can get more power by upgrading to the SR trim and can gain luxury comfort without opting for the Capstone Hybrid.
