Avoid the Ford F-150 Base Model if you Want Tech and Safety Features
If you’re looking for a simple truck to get the job done, then the 2020 Ford F-150 may be the key to finding some savings. However, the basic base model might be lacking key features and luxuries that other base models have. Before investing in the Ford F-150, see if the base model comes with enough standard features or not.
What Comes With The Ford F-150 Base Model?
You can get started in a base model Ford F-150 for only $28k. This price is competitive with the Chevy Silverado, which starts around $28 as well. However, the Toyota Tundra starts around $33k because it comes with a V8 and other upgrades that the F-150 doesn’t have.
The Ford F-150 base model is the Ford F-150 XL, and it is a two-seater. Upgrading to the super cab will cost over $4k, and upgrading to the super crew cab will be an extra $7k. So if you want a truck to fit your family in, then the price rises pretty quickly.
Base Model Ford F-150 Performance
The lowest trim engine the Ford F-150 has to offer is the 2.7-liter V6 EcoBoost option that provides 325 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque, which isn’t bad. However, the base model comes with the 3.3-liter V6 EcoBoost engine that pumps out 290 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque.
Depending on the build you choose, the base model Ford F-150 can tow between 5,000 to 8,000 lb. But you may have to upgrade to the 2.7-liter V6 engine for the ability to tow 8,000 lb. However, the 3.3-liter V6 engine does have stop and go technology to save on fuel. However, be sure to add the tow package for $595

The base model also comes with an electronic six-speed transmission with driving modes such as sport, tow, and haul. It comes with four-wheel drive too, which is a plus because you won’t have to pay to add that feature on.
On the exterior, not much is included except for manual-folding side view mirrors and a 3,55 non-slip axle ratio. Running boards, privacy glass, a rear defrost window, plastic or spray bed liner, and more are options you can add on.
Ford F-150 Base Model Features
In the Ford F-150 base model, you get two full cloth seats, and one little middle seat is available for a third passenger to squeeze into. But at least a black vinyl floor covering is included.
You also get an AM/FM radio to party like it’s 1999 with. To add more entertainment, you will need to spend an extra $2k. That gives you Ford SYNC to connect with Alexa, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay.
A rearview mirror with trailer hitch assist is included, but you should consider spending $275 for the integrated brake controller. You can also upgrade to the pro trailer backup assistance feature.
The only standard safety features included with the base model are curve control, stability control, airbags, and seat belts. For lane departure assistance, forward collision prevention, rear cross-traffic alert, and more, you’ll have to spend extra.
