Avoid the Overpriced Ford Ranger Roush Package
You can make your 2020 Ford Ranger look even better and improve its off-roading performance with the Ford Ranger Roush package. However, the package may be a little expensive with more looks to show off instead of actual power.
Is the 2020 Ford Ranger Roush worth buying?
According to the Auto Blog, the Ford Ranger Roush package is perfectly fine. It just doesn’t seem to have the best value. That’s the nicest way possible to say that it’s a little overpriced. However, they won’t knock you for buying it either. It’s a pretty good pickup truck, despite being pricey.
Their 2020 Ranger Roush costs about $2,000 more than the base model Ford F-150 Raptor, which starts around $55,150. The basic Roush package costs about $12,750, which is added to the truck that will be converted.
The Ranger XLT Crew Cab already was about $42,515 before adding the Roush package. Plus, optional extras like the $1,800 bed cover, front and rear lockboxes for $400 each, and the $250 off-road utility kit can make the all-in price reach $57,980.
We aren’t knocking the Ranger Roush, but you will get a bigger truck with a lot more power and off-roading capabilities by saving with the Ford Raptor. We also know that not everyone wants to drive and park a full-size truck, so mid-sized options like the Ranger are preferred. We’re just looking at the value.
Plus, if you configure your own 2020 Ford Ranger, you can also save with Ford parts. Auto Blog equipped a Ranger XLT SuperCrew 4×4 with the fender vents, big fender flares, a retractable bed cover, floor liners, cat-back exhaust, and the Ford Performance Package 2 for about $48,075.
The package includes Fox shocks, matching springs, blue tow hooks, off-road all-terrain tires, and an engine tune that increases output to 315 hp and 370 lb-ft of torque. But it does lack comfort amenities from the Roush package.
What is included with the Ranger Roush Package?
The Ranger Roush Package includes a grille that says ‘ROUSH,’ with LED lights on top. The fenders have a unique metallic paint color and an increased width. You also get red-painted tow hooks, WeatherTech floor liner, and custom diamond-stitched leather upholstery.
The mechanical upgrades include 18-inch Roush wheels that are fitted to 32-inch all-terrain tires, 2.0 Fox shocks with matching Roush springs, and a cat-back exhaust. The springs level the ride height to almost match the Ford performance leveling kit. Also, the cat-back only adds sound and no power.
For an extra $935, you can get a Level 1 Roush Performance Pac that includes calibration for the transmission and engine. A new intake is also included to add 47-hp and 65 lb-ft of torque. AutoBlog didn’t test a Ranger with this Pac.
Is the Ford Ranger Roush a good truck?
Yes, the Ford Ranger Roush is an excellent option. When you’re cruising on the highway, the ride is comfortable and quiet. However, it didn’t feel different from regular Ranger. The beefy off-roading tires didn’t add much grip, but the suspension did feel better tuned.
The rest is exactly like any Ranger. It has an average transmission with smooth shifts and excellent mid-range torque. The interior is also still a little lacking with the use of cheap plastics, but the diamond-stitched leather seats are a nice upgrade.
