The Ford Maverick debuted in 2022 and was impossible to ignore. The compact pickup truck boasted an MSRP below $20k and a maximum fuel efficiency rating over 40 mpg. There was just one problem: you could only order that efficient hybrid powertrain as a FWD. And for many folks seeking a truck, that was a non-starter.

As the Maverick enters its fourth model year, Ford is giving it some major updates. Just like the F-150, every Maverick trim level now has its own unique grille. Not only that, but the off-road-ready “Tremor” package has been upgraded to a trim.

Every Maverick trim gets a 13.2-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. You can still order the 2.0-liter EcoBoost with AWD that makes 250 horsepower. But Ford’s made a major change to the entry-level powertrain.

The Maverick’s standard powertrain was always its 2.5-liter hybrid. And again, this was once FWD only. Now you can get the efficient powertrain with AWD. And that’s not all. This hybrid powertrain now gets an improved trailering package with better engine cooling for a 4,000-pound tow rating.

No, those aren’t F-150 numbers. But a 4,000-pound tow rating and AWD means the hybrid Maverick can do some serious truck stuff. That may help Ford justify its price bump.

By 2024, the Maverick’s MSRP had climbed from the original $20k to $25,515. For 2025 it’ll climb another $2,375 to $27,890. There’s no word yet what MPG the AWD hybrid Maverick will get.

We’ll have to wait and see whether its added capabilities can entice Ford truck fans to plunk down $27k+, or if they’ll save up for the full-frame Ranger.
