Winter is fast approaching, which means incoming snow and ice for many areas in the United States. For some cars, like the Kia Sorento, hazardous road conditions aren’t too big of a deal. According to a list from U.S. News, it’s one of the best SUVs to drive over snow-covered trails.

When there’s ice on the road, you should always use caution while driving and be prepared for the worst. However, if your car can’t handle the weather, you’re already setting yourself up for failure. Here’s why the Kia Sorento is a great car for all seasons, especially winter.

The Kia Sorento’s safety features

A car with a lot of driver’s aids ensures that you have the most protection you need on bad roads. The 2020 Kia Sorento doesn’t have any standard safety features, but the LX comes with rear cross-traffic alert and blind-spot monitors. The Convenience package for this trim includes forward-collision warning and rear parking sensors. It also comes with heated front seats and dual-zone climate control to keep everyone warm during the drive.

The Kia Sorento S includes all these features standard, plus heated outside mirrors. The Sorento EX has many other safety features, like lane-keeping assistance and pedestrian detection. It also had a driver drowsiness warning to keep drivers alert of their hazardous surroundings. LED headlights are also available, which give drivers more visibility during heavy snow or rain.

The Kia Sorento’s All-wheel-drive power

All-wheel drive is an option for the Kia Sorento, starting on the LX trim. It’s better than FWD in slippery conditions because it gives drivers more traction. Additionally, the Sorento’s AWD system is equipped with Smart Shift and Drive, which automatically detects conditions of the road.

The Kia Sorento is backed up by good crash test scores in every category, with above-average performance in front crash prevention. It also has no problems climbing snowy hills thanks to its strong V6 engine option. It’s capable of 290 hp and comes paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.

What else makes the Kia Sorento so special?

The 2020 Kia Sorento was the winner of the Best 3-Row SUV for the Money award from U.S. News. A model with AWD and four important safety features costs around $30,000. With every safety feature included, it costs $35,000, and the highest trim costs $40,000.

Some of its rivals have higher base prices and don’t come with as many standard features. A $30,000 Kia Sorento also comes with smartphone integration, a moonroof, and a couple of USB ports. The 2021 Kia Sorento, expected later this year, will be an even better value. The base trim comes equipped with lane-keeping assist, a rear-seat reminder, and forward-collision warning.

Riding inside the 2020 Kia Sorento is also a very comfortable experience. Its suspension absorbs bumps without disturbing its occupants and the traction control keeps it firmly planted to the road. Cabin noise is also very minimal.

The steering wheel has some nice weight to it, giving drivers confidence while braving the elements. The brakes kick in quickly on all types of pavement. Visibility is great thanks to the large windshield and slim roof pillars.

In addition to its cushy ride quality, the Kia Sorento has comfortable and spacious seating. The first two rows have enough room for adults, but the third row is better suited for kids. The seats are supportive enough for long drives, so you can take your time on slippery roads.

According to the Department of Transportation, over 1.2 million car crashes each year are caused by bad weather. Practicing safe driving habits inside a well-equipped car like the Kia Sorento protects you and your family over dangerous roads.
