Being Late Helps the Ram 1500 EV Be the Best Electric Truck
We might be the minority regarding being late, unlike the Ram 1500 EV. We don’t like it. It means we’re tardy unless it’s a party. Then it’s fashionable? Apparently, the 2024 Ram 1500 EV must be full of trendy fashion because being late makes it better.
Is the 2024 Ram 1500 EV the best electric truck?
Not yet, but the 2024 Ram 1500 EV could be the best electric truck soon, once it finally arrives. Options like the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning, 2022 Rivian R1T, and 2024 Chevy Silverado EV are beating it to the streets.
But hey, the electric Ram could still make it out before the Tesla Cybertruck, and Stellantis has a different way of thing about things. Instead of the traditional idea along the lines of if you’re not first, you’re last, Stellantis is using the extra time to make the Ram EV even better.
According to MotorTrend, The electric Ram is using a little more time to spy on the competition. Then it can learn from the failures of its competitors to avoid making the same mistakes.
This could just be a convenient excuse for being late to the electric truck party. But on the other hand, Stellantis could be planning something to make its electric truck really stand out against the growing competition.
What to expect with the electric Ram truck
We only have rumors and teasers about the 2024 Ram 1500 EV to go on. But we can speculate that it will have plenty of range. Battery packs with 200 kWh could provide up to 200 miles of range, which could outlast rivals.
The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning standard-range model provides an EPA-estimated range of about 230 miles. You can upgrade to the extended-range model to get about 320 miles of range.
We’re still waiting to learn more about the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV, but rumors suggest that it will arrive with over 400 miles of range once it debuts in the spring of 2023.
Also, the Ram EV could feature an 800-volt architecture to dramatically increase charging rates. The F-150 Lightning takes about 14 hours to recharge the batteries with a 220-volt charger. With a fast charger, you can replenish the battery from 15 to 80 percent in about 40 minutes.
We can’t forget about Ram’s ranger extender, which could make a significant difference with charging and towing. The Ram Range Electric Paradigm Breaker could recharge the batteries, but it might not power the wheels.
How strong is the Ram EV?
The 2024 Ram 1500 EV is expected to have plenty of muscle. Stellantis suggests that it will have the best-in-class towing and payload figures once it arrives.
It might not be hard to beat rivals. The Ford F-150 Lightning can tow up to 10,000 lbs, the Rivian R1T can tow up to 11,000 lbs, and the Chevy Silverado EV is expected to be able to tow up to 10,000 lbs.
The Ram EV is built on the new STLA frame, which could handle more weight. It seems to have room for up to three electric motors, but it’s only been spotted with two.
You could go ahead and get one of the other electric trucks now, but the Ram 1500 EV might be worth the longer wait. It’s planning to avoid the weaknesses that come with rivals by taking the time to be better.
