A 2023 clip of Ben Affleck exasperatedly “slamming” his Mercedes-AMG EQS sedan’s door after holding it open for his wife is recirculating this week. Since the couple didn’t spend their second anniversary together, which was July 16, folks seem to be keen on resurfacing old footage.

In the video, Affleck walks Lopez to the right front door and opens it for her. After she gets in, he swings the door closed and holds his arm up, expressing annoyance.

While Affleck certainly looks irked, the clip is likely taken out of context. In June 2024, an episode of comedian Kevin Hart’s talk show featuring Affleck aired on Peacock. In it, Affleck explained his notorious “Resting Ben Face.”

The way he slams the door actually does say it all

Affleck says that photographers cause his exasperation while he’s out in public with Lopez. This contrasts Affleck’s typically more casual interactions with fans and followers.

As commenters on the X post insist, Affleck says he shifts into “Sad Ben” after constantly facing photographers who track their every move. Indeed, the end of the clip shows Affleck addressing the photographers directly, raising his arm similarly to the beginning of the video. “Thank you guys,” he spurts before hopping into the $140K Mercedes-AMG. His “Resting Ben Face” is on full display. After the “Hart to Hart” appearance, we might take Ben Affeck’s expression here as having nothing to do with his wife.
