Ford has no shortage of pickup truck options. There are many to choose from available in various sizes with a good range of towing capacities. You can get a Ford truck with a powerful V8, an efficient turbodiesel, and even one with an all-electric setup. 

While many trucks boast considerable power, not all are the most reliable. Because trucks are put to their limits every day, getting one that will last for a long time is important. One popular auto website says this particular Ford truck is more reliable than most of the automaker’s entire lineup. 

How many trucks does Ford offer?

The Ford F-150 is arguably the automaker’s most popular pickup truck and one of the most competitive entries in the full-size segment. Engine choices range from a base 290-hp V6 to a supercharged V8 with 700 hp. The full-size F-150 has a maximum towing capacity of 14,000 lbs and a payload capacity of 3,325 lbs.

The Ford F-150 also offers three cargo box lengths and two cab sizes, with the SuperCrew offering great legroom for passengers. The truck’s tailgate can double as a work surface, and the bed has an optional power outlet. Most of the F-150’s convenience features also carry over to the respective heavy-duty trims.

The Ford F-150 Lightning is all-electric, powered by two electric motors and your choice of two battery options. The best setup generates 580 hp and 775 lb-ft of torque and gives you 320 miles of range. Getting the extended-range battery also allows the Lightning to tow up to 10,000 lbs on the Lariat and XLT trims. 

Ford also promises that every other trim beside the base model can accelerate to 60 mph in less than four seconds. Each truck also has numerous standard technology features inside, including wireless smartphone integration. Like the regular F-150, the Lightning also has an on-board power generator. 

The Ford Maverick comes standard with a hybrid powertrain that generates 191 hp and 155 lb-ft of torque. It’s paired with a CVT and is estimated to earn 42 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. While efficient, its towing capacity is only 2,000 lbs.

The optional Ecoboost engine allows the Maverick to tow up to 4,000 lbs. This one makes 250 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque, plus it’s the only one that can be optioned with AWD.

The Ford Ranger is reportedly the most reliable option

The midsize Ford Ranger currently has an almost perfect reliability rating on RepairPal, with an annual maintenance cost of $615. It only has a 12% chance of needing a major repair, which is below average for this segment. 

The Ford Ranger only has one engine option, a turbo-four with 270 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. It can tow up to 7,500 lbs with the right enhancements. 

It also has two bed sizes and two decently accommodating cab options. Unfortunately, its standard interior technology offerings fall behind several of its rivals. Of course, with fewer features, you won’t need as many smaller repairs.

How reliable are other Ford trucks?

While the Ford F-150 is still generally reliable, RepairPal estimates that this truck requires almost $800 for annual maintenance and small repairs. Its likelihood of needing a major repair each year is 15%, though that’s still better compared to some rivals.

A Ford Super Duty pickup is one of the automaker’s least reliable cars, especially the F-350 model. There’s a 25% chance it will need a major repair each year, during which it also requires nearly $1,300 for maintenance. The Ford Ranger might not be as powerful, but it makes up for that with dependability.
