4. The 2022 Lexus UX Hybrid is a seriously impressive luxury hybrid SUV

U.S. News loves the 2022 Lexus UX Hybrid, and it’s no surprise. The Lexus UX Hybrid has great fuel economy, getting 41 mpg in the city and 38 mpg on the highway. It has enough seating for five passengers, making it a versatile choice for families with two or three kids. It also has a nice, smooth ride. You can get all this for just $35,350.
Unfortunately, the UX does have its downsides as well. U.S. News says the infotainment controls are hard to use and there isn’t as much storage space as one might like. This is especially problematic for people with kids, who may need the extra room for backpacks and sports equipment. In addition, the acceleration is somewhat lackluster, meaning getting on the highway may be challenging or even kind of stressful.
3. The 2022 Lexus RX Hybrid is another great high-end choice
One of the things that U.S. News likes the most about the 2022 Lexus RX is its “classy cabin.” It says that the RX “has a refined cabin, plenty of features, and a capable powertrain…” The RX is slightly larger than the UX, with room for up to six passengers. Its engine is fairly powerful putting out 308 hp. Its range isn’t quite as impressive as the smaller UX, getting just 31 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.
So what doesn’t U.S. News like the about the 2022 Lexus RX Hybrid? It says that “it’s not as roomy, fuel-efficient, or agile as some rivals are.” It doesn’t like its cargo space either, calling it “unimpressive.” The third-row is cramped and the infortainment system can be “distracting.”
2. The 2022 Lexus NX Hybrid is the third Lexus on this list
In case you hadn’t noticed, Lexus makes some pretty great hybrid SUVs. That’s why the 2022 Lexus NX Hybrid is the third Lexus SUV on this list. The Lexus NX has great fuel economy, getting 41 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway. Like its hybrid Lexus SUV siblings, it has a nice interior, such as you’d expect from a luxury SUV. U.S. News also likes its powertrain, calling it “peppy.”
That doesn’t mean the Lexus NX Hybrid is perfect though. U.S. News says that “it doesn’t have as much space as other luxury hybrid SUVs, and the infotainment system can be confusing to use.” Its engine is also weaker than the RX, making between 240-304 hp. In addition, it doesn’t have quite the same passenger space as the RX, holding up to five passengers.
1. The 2022 Porsche Cayenne Hybrid is the best luxury hybrid SUV
You may be surprised that the best hybrid luxury SUV isn’t a Lexus, considering how the rest of the list goes, but U.S. News says that as wonderful as those Lexus hybrid SUVs are, Porsche makes an even better one. It doesn’t come cheap, starting at $83,300, but what you get is truly impressive. The 2022 Porsche Cayenne is a bit smaller than the Lexus SUV, holding just 4-5 passengers. However, its range is excellent, getting 46 MPGe (which is gas plus electricity). It also has a powerful engine that makes between 455-670 hp.
So what are the downsides? The 2022 Porsche Cayenne Hybrid is expensive and its fuel economy isn’t that great overall. Using just gas, the Cayenne gets only 21 mpg. In addition, it’s super expensive – you could buy two Lexus for the price of one Cayenne Hybrid.
For those in the market for a luxury hybrid SUV, you really can’t go wrong with any of these options. If all four are within your budget, it comes down to a matter of taste and range. If you don’t need the extra miles and you have the extra cash, you might love the ultra-luxury 2022 Porsche Cayenne Hybrid.
