If you’re a big fan of cars, chances are you like watching a lot of movies about cars. You may have even got interested in cars thanks to awesome rides showcased on the silver screen. Hollywood knows there’s a big audience for cars, which is why franchises like Fast and the Furious have become major successes.

There are a lot of great car movies out there, but we managed to narrow it down to just a few. Here are some flicks to watch while you’re gearing up for the new season of Drive to Survive.

‘Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby’

If you’re a fan of professional car racing, this one’s for you. Unsurprisingly, it didn’t win any awards for Best Picture, but it still has some great racing scenes. Plus, it gives the audience a satirical peek inside the life of a track driver.

The performances from comedy kings Will Ferrell, Sacha Baron Cohen, and John C. Reilly combined with thrilling race car action make the film really fun to watch. As a little easter egg, fans of NASCAR will be pleased to see cameos from real-life racers like Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Jamie McMurray.

‘The Car’

The concept of a car getting a mind of its own and wreaking havoc on the human populace isn’t completely original, but The Car was one of the first movies to do it right.

The “star” of the movie is a customized 1971 Lincoln Continental Mark III, designed by George Barris, who was responsible for many iconic custom jobs like the Batmobile for the ’60s television show. There’s a lot of explosions and high-speed action to keep your eyes glued to the screen. The special effects look a little dated and the acting is campy at times, but it’s very good for a B-movie about a killer car.

‘Rush’

Based on the true story surrounding the rivalry of Formula One racers James Hunt and Niki Lauda, this film gives us another glance into the world of racecar drivers.

Unlike Talladega Nights, this one is much more gritty and focused on racing rather than comedy. The cinematography is incredible and does a great job showcasing the intensity of race car driving. Not to mention, the performances from acting leads Liam Hemsworth and Daniel Bruhl are top-notch. Best of all, you’ll get to watch a lot of iconic F1 cars from the ’70s rip up the road, like the 1976 Ferrari 312 and the 1976 McLaren M23.

‘Bullit’

Any Mustang fans reading will want to watch this movie. This film isn’t as car-centric as the rest on this list. However, what it’s really known for are its memorable chase scenes.

The main character uses a formidable Ford Mustang to outrace his enemies in three thrilling sequences. In some instances, the cars on screen were racing as high as 110 mph. In addition to road action, the scenes incorporate point-of-view shots from the driver’s perspective to really immerse the audience. This movie truly set the standard for realism and intensity of car chase scenes.

‘Gone in Sixty Seconds’

Whether you love or hate Nic Cage, you can’t deny that this movie is a must-see for car fans. The film is a remake of an older ’70s car movie. But like most films of the 21st century, the updated special effects and technical aspects of filming really breathe new life into the chase scenes.

Plus, the sheer variety of gleaming automobiles is a feast for a gearhead’s eyes. From Ferraris, Porsches, and even a classic Chevy Corvette Stingray, there’s something for everyone in this film.
