The 2023 Toyota Camry Hybrid and the 2023 Honda Accord Hybrid are so close in so many ways. They seat the same amount of people, they look good, they go well, they’re comfortable and reliable. The base prices are almost identical, too. But, one is more efficient.

The 2023 Toyota Camry Hybrid gets 39 mpg on the highway

Overall, the Camry is an affordable and solid option with few flaws. Adding the hybrid engine somewhat bumps its price tag, but the popular Toyota sedan will still start at less than $30,000. The standard Camry starts at about $26,000, while the Camry Hybrid starts at $28,000.

The Camry Hybrid adds to the great car by significantly improving its fuel economy. The standard Camry gets about 28 mpg in the city and 39 mpg on highways, for 38 mpg combined. That hybrid powertrain, however, bumps the Toyota’s fuel economy to 52 mpg combined. Other than that, both Camrys are almost identical in terms of what Toyota equipped them with.

The 2023 Honda Accord Hybrid starts at $31,325. It’s a bit larger than the Camry in every dimension. While both cars have four-cylinder engines, the Accord’s is a bit smaller and gives up 4 horsepower to the Camry. The Camry has a bit more power and torque, which helps it get off the line a bit quicker.

The Accord is a bit more expensive, and with that you get a slightly upgraded interior over the Camry’s. But, on the fuel economy side, it gets stellar numbers: 51 MPG city and 44 mpg highway.

While the Camry is the best midsize car under $30,000, there are a lot of other top models shoppers may want to consider. For example, the Hyundai Sonata and the Kia K5 have more trunk space than the Toyota, and both cars are top models. The Sonata has 19.8 cu-ft of trunk space, while the K5 has 20.3 cu-ft. Both midsize cars start at about $25,000.

The Subaru Legacy is another solid segment option, starting at just over $24,000. Like many other Subarus, the Legacy starts with all-wheel drive as a standard feature. The Subie’s standard engine isn’t that great, but Subaru offers a 2.4-liter turbo four-cylinder engine, and it gets 260 hp. Lastly, the Nissan Altima is another solid option. It starts at about $25,000 and earns an excellent fuel economy of 32 mpg combined.
