The future of electric pickup trucks: the Tesla Cybertruck?

U.S. News did a feature on “future trucks,” and there was one that stood out. Everyone has heard of the Tesla Cybertruck, but it is coming to fruition. Production is supposed to start at the end of 2021 and is priced at around $40,000.

The Cybertruck is supposed to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in about 2.9 seconds and has Full Self-Driving mode (that doesn’t actually fully self-drive). The $40,000 price tag is obviously for the base model, which can climb past $70,000 for upgrades.

Lordstown Motors Endurance: a new electric pickup truck

The Lordstown Motors Endurance truck is new. Very new. And it looks like it is from the future. The truck is being put together in the old Chevrolet Cruze factory in Ohio and will start at just over $52,500. It is slated to arrive toward the end of this year with an estimated 600 hp.

This truck has some interesting features like independent motors at each wheel hub. This will require fewer parts to propel the truck forward and will “maximize traction while reducing maintenance costs.”

The Endurance is expected to get 250 miles on a single charge and will have 120 volt outlets to power tools.

2021 Rivian R1T: The first of many?

The 2021 Rivian R1T is the first model to hit the market by Rivian, which has collected many investments from companies like Ford and Amazon. Rivian has some big shoes to fill with the anticipated stats of this truck.

The R1T will get 400 miles on a single charge and has an 11,000-pound towing capacity. It can off-road and go through three feet of water, plus it has 14 inches of ground clearance. It will hit the market at $67,500 later this year.

A fancy option: Bollinger B2

The Bollinger B2 is square. The only circular designs on this bad boy are the lights and tires because square tires don’t work. This new all-electric truck might look high-end, but it is ready for whatever you throw at it.

Like the Endurance, the B2 features a motor on each axel supplying power to the individual wheel. The B2 will get around 614 hp and a 200-mile range. U.S. News notes that the B2 has a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of over 7,500 pounds.

This means that the truck is exempt from certain regulations other trucks are subject to, like airbags. It has removable doors and roof panels and starts at $125,000.

Highly anticipated: GMC Hummer EV

GMC is coming out with a Hummer electric vehicle in SUV form and truck form this year. The Hummer EV supposedly is going to get 1,000 hp from three electric motors and will get from 0 to 60 in three seconds.

Hummer says the EV will get 350 miles of range and has a 350 kW fast-charger that will add 100 miles of range in 10 minutes. It will have five seats and removable roof panels. It also features Crab Mode that allows it to crab walk diagonally!

The first edition started at $112,595 and more models will follow.
