The Infiniti QX60 is basically the luxury version of the classic Nissan Pathfinder.  With that being said, if you’re looking for luxury SUV that’s particularly family-friendly, the QX60 is definitely worth considering. In fact, the QX60 is so accommodating that Consumer Reports has named it the best luxury three-row SUV for road tripping in 2020. Here’s what you should know before selecting the QX60 for your next journey. 

The family-friendly factor

Now, the QX60 doesn’t boast the most upscale looking cabin in its class, but it is comfortable and inviting, plus its good on cargo space. The QX60’s cabin is mixed with durable and handsome materials, but some may think it is a little too heavy on the plastic.

The QX60 comes standard with faux leather upholstery along with power-adjusting heated front seats, sliding second-row seats, and reclining seats on both the second and third rows. Interior upgrades include genuine leather, a heated steering wheel, ventilated front seats, and heated second-row seats. The QX60 is spacious enough for long-legged adults but the third-row is better suited for kids. 

CR especially likes the QX60’s family-friendly feature that still gives access to the third row even if there is a child car seat installed in the second row. There are two full sets of LATCH connectors on the second row to secure child seats and two tether-only connectors on the third row. Overall, securing child seats in the QX60 is simple and straightforward.

Performance 

The QX60 gets its power from a 295-horsepower V6 engine. Its forceful V6 makes for a comfortable and smooth ride but its handling isn’t very agile. That being said, the QX60 has no problem accelerating to top speeds.

As far as fuel economy goes, the QX60 is so-so. It can get up to 22 mpg but with all-wheel-drive it’s about 19 mpg overall. This is to be expected though for a vehicle this size. 

In-car electronics 

The QX60’s base trim level, Pure, offers a nice infotainment system that comes standard with an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth. The base model also comes with desirable advanced safety and driver-assistance features including forward-collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, and pedestrian detection.

It’s worth going up to the highest trim level, the Luxe to get additional in-car electronics. It’s the only trim that can be upgraded with Infiniti’s available packages which include items such as navigation and adaptive cruise control. You will also want to consider upgrading with the Theatre package which includes multimedia screens in the back for the kiddos to watch movies.

Safety and reliability 

Overall the QX60 is a safe and reliable luxury SUV. It earned a perfect safety score from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety named the QX60 as a Top Safety Pick. 

The QX60 is a good choice reliability-wise too. Consumer Reports gave the QX60 an impressive reliability rating and it received a decent durability rating from J.D. Power as well. Generally speaking, QX60 owners are satisfied with most of the QX60’s features but the model could improve upon being a better value buy.
