If you’ve been searching for a well-rounded luxury vehicle, you’ve probably come across the 2020 Lexus RX as a worthy contender. The 2020 Lexus RX has earned praise for being upscale, practical, and affordable.  Comfort is also a notable aspect of the RX. It’s so comfortable in fact that Consumer Reports has considered it as one of the best luxury SUVs for road trips.

The RX offers a high-end, comfortable cabin

The RX provides ample space for passengers to stretch out in, making it an ideal luxury vehicle for long car rides. Standard RX models seat just five passengers but you can opt for the RX L which can seat up to seven. Unsurprisingly, you will probably want to leave the third row to smaller passengers since it’s a bit cramped.

Handsome, faux leather upholstery comes standard on the RX with genuine leather upholstery available as an upgrade. Other interior upgrades include a heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated front seats, along with heated second-row seats. One recent RX interior upgrade we are glad Lexus finally did was fixing up this SUV’s infotainment system.

Over the last few years, Lexus’ infotainment system technology has been ranked as one of the worst out there. This is because the carmaker decided to utilize an old-school computer system instead of a touchscreen system or one with traditional rotary knobs. Now in 2020, the RX has an easier to use touchpad infotainment system instead of the funky mouse-controlled one. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are now available on this SUV as well.

Performance and capability

Overall, the RX  is a smooth, gentle ride that’s also fun. It’s not particularly sporty but its handling is secure. The only powertrain available on the RX is a 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces a 295-horsepower.  This Lexus offers satisfying power for driving around town or on the countryside. It has also earned rave reviews for its eight-speed automatic transmission.

Compared to others in its class, the RX has above-average fuel economy ratings. Its V6 engine gets a combined 22 mpg overall. There’s also a hybridized version of this model that gets 29 mpg overall.  The RX is also capable enough for off-roading too, even though you probably won’t want to do that.

Safety features and ratings

Standard advanced safety equipment in the RX includes a pre-collision warning and braking system with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control. More importantly,  these advanced safety features have helped the RX earn excellent safety ratings. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the RX a five-star crash-test safety score and the Insurance Institute for High Safety named it a Top Safety Pick.

Reliability ratings and owner satisfaction

The RX is one of the most reliable SUVs you can buy which also gives it a strong resale value. Consumer Reports gave the RX a near-perfect reliability score based on its testing across 17 potential trouble spots. J.D. Power gave this 2020 model a perfect score based on its durability. These excellent ratings have translated into exceptional owners’ satisfaction too.
