Car and Driver recently released the top 25 best-selling cars, trucks, and SUVs of the first quarter of 2023, and the results held a handful of surprises. For EVs, we are starting to see a quick rise in the popularity of mass-market electric vehicles. If you have been around any American city with an EV infrastructure, the top-selling EVs of 2023 will be no surprise to you.

The Tesla Model Y: 85,000 estimated units sold

Although the current sales numbers for the Telsa Model Y aren’t available to the public just yet, Car and Driver place their current estimates of Model Y sales at around 85,000 units. This number puts the Model Y fourth in total vehicle sales across America.

The only three vehicles with higher sales were the Ford F-Series, Chevy Silverado, and the Ram Pickup. For a fully electric vehicle to overcome so many other, more established vehicles for fourth place is unheard of, and it is a huge feat for Tesla and the EV marketplace in general.

What makes the Tesla Model Y appealing to so many consumers is the range, features, and affordability. The Model Y comes standard with all-wheel drive and an estimated range of 279 miles. The Model Y can be had for $49,990, and the long-range model, which brings the range up to 330 miles, is only $3,000 more expensive.

With vehicle prices increasing yearly, most families are paying around $40,000 to $50,000 for a quality car. With a Model Y, you get to experience the tech-savvy lifestyle behind the wheel of a Tesla without the supercar pricing. If you have been anywhere in America where EVs are commonplace within the last year, it is no surprise that the best-selling EV of 2023 so far is the Model Y.

The Tesla Model 3: 63,000 estimated units sold

If the current estimates are to be believed, the Tesla Model 3 is the 10th best-selling vehicle in America for the first quarter of 2023. The only sedan that beat the Model 3 in sales so far is the Toyota Camry. The Model 3 brings everything to the table for an EV shopper. The range of the Model 3 is right around 272 miles with a long-range version coming later this year.

This tech-savvy midsize sedan comes in at just over $41,000 before incentives, and depending on your state, you could be driving off the lot with a Model 3 for less than $30,000. The Model 3 does just about everything right when it comes to being an entry-level luxury EV.
