The Best Super Bowl LVI Commercials and the Cars That Star in Them
- Nissan’s big-budget Super Bowl spot stars Dave Bautista and a Nissan Z
- BMW’s new EVs will be showcased with the help of Arnold Schwarzenegger
- Wallbox has a brilliant business model and a Super Bowl commercial to match
The Super Bowl will air this weekend, where the LA Rams will face off against the Cincinatti Bengals. The ads will be frequent and gratuitous, fitting of the biggest game of the year. Thankfully, there’s always a gamut of new commercials (and new cars) showing off the latest and greatest in all things automotive. So, I pulled together the best (or most promising) ones I could find.
The Nissan Z will star in a Super Bowl… film?
I already talked about the absurd cost of Nissan’s Super Bowl LVI ad. Regardless, this one should be entertaining. Nissan is calling it a film, shot to showcase the new 2023 Nissan Z. Typical of Big Game ads, the brand has pulled out all the stops, bringing in big names like Dave Bautista, Eugene Levy, and Danai Gurira. We’re not sure what the length of this one will be, but it should show off the Nissan Z with plenty of tire smoke and gratiuitous Fast and Furious gear change shots.
BMW EVs and Arnold Schwarzenegger take the spotlight
Speaking of big names and big brands, BMW managed to land The Terminator for their Super Bowl commercial. Arnold Schwarzenegger will star as Zeus alongside Salma Hayek and Matty Cardarople. Obviously, as the ad will be about BMW EVs, it’ll all have something to do with Zeus. About all I could gather from this teaser spot is a barista can’t spell one of the most iconic names in human mythology. Hopefully it means a glance at some of the hot new electric stuff BMW is cooking up. Maybe even that electric M car everyone is talking about.
The Kia EV6 takes a page from Subaru’s Super Bowl commercial playbook
Overlap in the Super Bowl ad game is inevitable. I mean, how many times have we all seen the same Dorito ad every year? It looks like Kia is pulling a page from Subaru’s dog-heavy ad campaigns to showcase the new Kia EV6 crossover. Apparently, the ad will follow the story of a Wall-E-like pup needing adoption. It all sounds heartbraking, but the Super Bowl’s biggest heartbreak will certainly come when the winning touchdown is scored (depending on who you’ve picked to win).
What is Wallbox?
This one’s a bit of an oddball. Wallbox sells in-home charging units for your electric car. Up ’till now, I genuinely can’t think of anyone doing this aside from OEMs. So the business premise is there. But the ad? That remains to be seen. This one will tell the story of a man scared of electricity following a lightning strike. I’m sure you can figure out where the rest of this goes. As for our favorites from the Super Bowl, you’ll have to check back the day after the game to see who comes out on top.
