The 2024 Jeep Wagoneer currently ranks as the best SUV for towing. If you thought the Chevy Suburban was the best option, then you weren’t far off. 

Despite being outmuscled by the new Wagoneer, the Chevy Suburban deserves respect as a reliable workhorse because it’s been used to tow and carry materials for decades. 

While the Suburban can tow up to 8,300 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,684 lbs, you need to get the Suburban XL to tow up to 8,400 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,884 lbs. 

The Wagoneer can tow up to 10,000 lbs without the need to upgrade to the Grand or XL models. It can also carry a payload of up to 1,519 lbs. 

So the Wagoneer falls 365 lbs behind in terms of payload capacity but leads the Suburban in towing capacity by 1,700 lbs. 

The 10,000 lb towing capacity is for two-wheel drive Wagoneer models with Heavy-Duty Trailer-tow Package and 4×4 models. 

With the towing package, you get a 3.91 axle ratio, HD engine cooling, a trailer brake control, hitch lineup assist, and hitch zoom view.

The Suburban provides 41.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third tow, 93.8 cubes behind the second row, and up to 144,7 cubes overall. 

So the Suburban has more space for people and stuff, but the Wagoneer has a higher towing capacity.
