Toyota SUVs with the lowest depreciation include the compact RAV4
When iSeeCars looked at vehicles that held value better, one of the Toyota SUVs with the lowest depreciation over five years was the RAV4. The Toyota RAV4 SUV made this list for both three-year and five-year depreciation. Over three years, the vehicle depreciated 2.6%, down only $843 over the MSRP. The national average was 16.9% and $6,928.
Karl Brauer, an Executive Analyst for iSeeCars, said, “To put some context to these numbers, consumers could have bought these cars new, driven them for three years, and then sold them for anywhere from just a few hundred dollars to around two thousand dollars below MSRP, which is unusual, to say the least.”
On the list of Toyota SUVs with the lowest depreciation over five years, the RAV4 came in at 23.1%. The small SUV average is 29.1%, which means the Toyota holds its value better than your average small SUV. Compact sport utility vehicles like this are fuel-efficient and relatively affordable. Around 0.5% of RAV4 SUVs on the market have 200,000 miles or more, so ensure regular maintenance is done on schedule.
You can’t have Toyota SUVs with the lowest depreciation without the 4Runner
For midsize Toyota SUVs with the lowest depreciation, the 4Runner came in at the top. The midsize SUV segment tends to depreciate more than the average vehicle, so these numbers are higher than the RAV4 by a bit. Toyota’s 4Runner depreciated at 21.7% over five years, compared to an average of 39.9%.
The Toyota 4Runner SUV is known for being dependable and long-lasting, with a potential lifespan of 244,665 miles or more. Most people keep the SUV for an extended period since it runs longer than the average, which also helps it keep value better.
iSeeCars found that the 4Runner is the most reliable vehicle in the midsize SUV category, and around 4.1% of all 4Runners on the road have 200,000 miles or more. Compared to the average of 0.9%, that number is pretty remarkable.
The Toyota Highlander holds its value well
In the same midsize SUV category, the Toyota Highlander also made the top five. iSeeCars found that the Highlander only depreciated 31.8% over five years compared to the 39.9% average. Another study found that around 1.5% of Toyota Highlander SUVs on the road have 200,000 miles or more. That’s higher than the average of 0.9%.
For a more fuel-efficient option on the list of Toyota SUVs with the lowest depreciation, the Highlander Hybrid only depreciated 32.7% over five years. The average hybrid depreciates 28.8%, which is pretty in line with similar vehicles.
The good news is that these Toyota SUVs with the lowest depreciation over five years are also some of the best sellers. Finding a reliable Toyota SUV is easier than it looks, with so many options in the lineup.
