Best Used Luxury SUVs
If you want a luxury SUV without having to pay the luxury price, you’ll have to turn your eyes to a used model. But it can be hard to know which used vehicles to focus on and which ones will provide you the best value. Below, you’ll find a list of some of the best used luxury SUVs you can find to help you get the most reliable, luxurious, and feature-full SUV possible.
Audi Q5
First known for its quick and long-performing passenger cars, Audi has had no problem launching itself into the luxury SUV market. Since making its debut, the smaller, reliable Audi Q5 SUV has stood out against the competition. You can find a first-generation Q5 from model years 2009-2017, with an average price of a used 2016 Q5 sitting at a cool $28,000.
But with the Q5 you’ll get a “more spacious back seat, sporty handling, competitive fuel economy scores, and premium interior,” according to Edmunds. Depending on the Q5 variant, you can get up to 31 MPG on the highway. Listed as one of Edmunds’ picks for best used luxury vehicles, Audi vehicles retain good resale value, and it’s easy to see why.
Mercedes-Benz GLE
The GLE hasn’t been around for long, making its first debut for the 2016 model year. But used GLEs from model years 2016-2018 won’t disappoint. The spacious Mercedes-Benz GLE is built with quality, offering a wide array of options for owners such as an adaptive suspension, pre-collision warning system, and comfortable seats you won’t ever want to leave.
Owners can buy a used GLE for a portion of the price of a new one, without sacrificing any luxury features. And as with other Mercedes vehicles, the GLE is a reliable used vehicle. According to Consumer Reports, both the 2016 and 2018 GLE received reliability ratings of four out of five. Because of the many options available with the GLE, average prices can range from $30,000-$80,000.
Volvo XC90
Based on an analysis of more than 20 million vehicles by iSeeCars, the Volvo XC90 came up in second place for best used luxury SUV. Using reliability, safety ratings, and value retention, the XC90 only fell short behind one other SUV. According to the experts at iSeeCars, it’s one of the longest-lasting luxury vehicles and “boasts Volvo’s characteristic safety ratings and a suite of standard active safety features.”
The interior of the XC90 is comfortable, flexible, and large; it’s able to fit up to seven passengers. Finding a used XC90 at a decent price isn’t hard either since a lack of redesign throughout the years has helped keep prices down. You can find used XC90s as old as the 2003 model year, which can give you a surprising amount of luxury for as little as $3,000. Newer models can be found with hybrid powertrain options as well.
Acura MDX
The same analysis done by iSeeCars found the Acura MDX as the best overall luxury SUV. Acura shares its parent company’s reputation for reliability and is “among the luxury SUVs that retain the most value.” Larger and roomier than other options, the MDX comes with an optional third-row for the same prices as smaller rivals. An all-wheel-drive system, powerful engine, and impressive interior features all come standard.
Even with the oldest MDX models, which first debuted in 2001, you’ll get a reliable, used SUV. According to Consumer Reports, owner satisfaction and reliability ratings throughout the years for the Acura MDX have been good overall, averaging scores of around four out of five. Consumer Reports also finds the average price of a 2016 MDX is between $21,000-$26,000.
