Consumer Reports puts each car, truck, and SUV through various tests to determine how reliable a vehicle is. For the 2015 Mazda CX-5 SUV, the results were above-average. Consumer Reports decided it was a reliable vehicle that owners reported few issues. With 26 mpg overall and a price under $20,000, the CX-5 has much to offer.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the 2015 CX-5 the Top Safety Pick Plus award. In its crash testing, the Mazda SUV received top scores on essential tests like the overall side crash, roof crush, and moderate front overlap.

The 2018 Mazda CX-5 is another reliable SUV option. The reliability verdict was high, and the owner satisfaction score was also high this year. That score includes the driving experience, comfort, value, and styling. In fact, 81% of buyers would buy the 2018 CX-5 again.

The IIHS also awarded the Top Safety Pick Plus award this year of the Mazda SUV. All of the crash test ratings performed returned high scores. Some of the reliability trouble spots, such as the engine minor, transmission, and drive system, were not an issue for the CX-5. Overall, the 2018 year is one of the best used Mazda CX-5 years to look for.

Avoid the 2016 Mazda sport utility vehicle, if possible

If there is one year to skip over, 2016 might be it. The good news is that even the worst year of the CX-5 isn’t that bad. The reliability score was still above average, but the owner satisfaction score was moderate. Areas like the driving experience, value, and styling were mostly satisfying for owners.

In order to get important safety features like forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking, buyers had to upgrade to the expensive higher trim levels. Either way, it received the IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus award. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave the 2016 CX-5 mainly five-star scores on its crash testing.

Average Retail Price: $16,150 – $18,900

The good news is that these reliable Mazda SUVs are affordable and easy enough to come by. Consumer Reports gave the sport utility vehicles high marks, as did the IIHS and the NHTSA. Overall, the more modern safety features, the better.
