It also has all-wheel drive on all trim levels, but you can go with the reasonably priced base model. The Sport trim starts at $39,435 and still comes stacked with features.

Adaptive cruise control, forward collision mitigation, and lane-keeping assist are standard on the Ridgeline. A Multi-Angle Rearview Camera helps provide a clear view of what is behind the truck and can be especially helpful when towing. Speaking of towing, the Ridgeline can tow 5,000 pounds when properly equipped.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the 2023 Honda Ridgeline a five-star safety rating. It performed well on frontal, side crash, and side barrier/pole tests.

No matter which version you go with, the Tacoma has a long history of reliability behind it. Toyota also equipped the truck with a 6,800-pound towing capacity. That’s enough for most midsize truck buyers.

Some of Edmunds’ favorite safety systems are Blind-Spot Monitor, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, and the Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection. All these help keep the driver and passengers safer on the road while making the Tacoma easier to drive.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the 2023 Toyota Tacoma high scores on its crash testing. On tests like the side impact, roof strength, and moderate overlap, the Tacoma received high scores.

For those who want an off-road capable vehicle, the Gladiator is basically just a truck version of the Wrangler. It offers high ground clearance, plenty of ways to customize it, and can still tow 7,000 pounds. Collision Warning Plus, Blind-Spot Monitor w/Cross-Traffic Alert, and Rear Parking Sensors are some of the best systems on the Gladiator.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the 2023 Jeep Gladiator a four-star overall safety rating. While the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety also gave the truck high scores, it missed out on the Top Safety Pick award for now.

Overall, the best value midsize trucks can still be affordable and capable. If you can get into one of the suggested trim levels and get on the road for under $60,000, get to it. Pickup trucks like these won’t be available in large numbers, especially when you zoom in on a specific (and popular) trim.
