The Biggest Changes to the 2022 Dodge Durango
There will be some 2022 Dodge Durango changes, but how big those changes will be remains to be seen. There are some pretty big switch-ups in the Dodge Durango lineup, and not everyone will be happy about them. So what’s new with the 2022 Dodge Durango, and what does this mean for the SUV‘s price?
Is Dodge going to redesign the Durango?
Dodge isn’t going to do a major rehaul of the Dodge Durango just yet. It’s more likely to save that for next year or so. Instead, the 2022 Dodge Durango will get a good old-fashioned midcycle refresh, which will include minor changes that should make it more comfortable and appealing. It won’t be a different SUV altogether.
One of the biggest changes that the Dodge Durango is undergoing is the loss of the Hellcat. It was only around for a year, and it’s already done. That makes the 2022 Dodge Durango SRT392 the top-level trim, according to Mopar Insiders.
In addition, while the 2021 Dodge Durango had four available powertrains, the 2022 Dodge Durango will have just three. These include a 3.4-liter V6 that makes 293 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. The 5.7-liter V8 makes 360 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque. And the most powerful engine, the 6.4-liter V8, makes 475 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque.
Will Dodge make the Durango in 2022?
Although there has been much talk about the Dodge Durango dying a slow and permanent death, things have been looking up for it recently. That said, it isn’t all good news for the 2022 Durango. The 2022 Dodge Durango Hellcat won’t be available this year, which is a major loss to some. Overall, it’s okay because you’ll still be able to get the 2022 Dodge Durango SRT. The Dodge Durango SRT has 475 hp. There’s also the Dodge Durango SXT, GT, R/T, and Citadel.
In addition, there’s a Dodge Durango plug-in hybrid coming. As electric SUVs are becoming more mainstream and desirable, we’re going to start to see hybrid and electric versions of a lot more traditional cars and SUVs in the coming years. It looks as though the Dodge Durango will be one of them.
How much should I pay for a Dodge Durango?
The 2022 Dodge Durango price starts at $35,475. For that price, you’ll get 19 mpg in the city, 26 on the highway, and 21 combined. That’s for the base model Dodge Durango, the 2022 Dodge Durango SXT. There are four other trim levels available, including the GT, R/T, Citadel, and SRT 392. Both the Durango V6 and V8 engines are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The 2022 Durango also comes with rear-wheel drive, though if you get the SRT 392, you’ll get all-wheel drive.
The Dodge Durango price for the R/T is $47,625, and the Citadel starts at $52,425. Other packages will cost you extra. The Anodized Platinum Package adds $995, while the Blacktop Package adds $1,595. You can get side steps for $650 and chrome side steps for $725. A power sunroof adds $1,295. The tow package adds $1,195.
Even with these changes to the 2022 Dodge Durango, it should remain the beloved muscle car-SUV that people adore. For now it will keep its three rows, its powerful engine, and its hardcore appeal. What lays in store for the Dodge Durango remains to be seen, but it’s sure to maintain the essence that makes it what it is.
