BMW Announces Increase in 2021 Sales and Performance After a Challenging 2020
2020 was one of the hardest years many generations have seen in their lifetime. With the global pandemic that many nations were unprepared for, the scale of loss from individuals to industries is almost unmeasurable. With the resilience of humankind, we have begun to see a world that has quickly adapted and changed, and along the way, perhaps become even more sustainable and aware of one another. Even the automotive industry, which employs millions of people across the world, has begun to recover, and major players like BMW have announced successful figures for Q1 2021.
BMW’s Q1 numbers
BMW has released its performance and sales number for Q1 of the year, and it’s easy to say that things are really looking up. Of course, every manufacturer wants to see continued growth year over year, and that’s exactly what BMW got for the first quarter, hopefully hinting at a successful start to the rest of the year. For BMW Group, including the brands BMW and MINI, there was a 20% increase in sales over Q1 2020, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
Impressive sales figures
Since the end of the first quarter, the brand has openly released its sales figures so far. Since January, BMW Group has sold a total of 71,433 BMW vehicles, which compares well to the same time last year, wherein the first quarter only 59,455 BMW vehicles were sold. That is a total increase of 20.1%, which is pretty impressive. They also showed an increase in certified pre-owned vehicles through the company, but by a smaller percentage.
More positive news
Other sales figures from BMW Group were also positive. MINI, another popular brand under the Group, also had an increase in overall sales in the first quarter. Although the numbers were much smaller than BMW’s, MINI sold a total of 6,285 marking an increase of 20% in comparison to the sales figures for the first quarter of 2020.
“We are off to a good start in 2021 and are looking forward to a successful year ahead”
Bernhard Kuhnt, president and CEO, BMW of North America
With BMW making a strong splash with increases in sales, hopefully, 2021 will continue to be a great success for the company and the automotive industry as a whole.
