The electrified version of the flagship BMW sedan, the i7, is causing quite a bit of stir. Though the iconic German manufacturer has yet to reveal it fully, there is plentiful information to decide it will be outstanding. In fact, in a slightly bizarre move, BMW even posted what effectively is spy shots of its own vehicle during the i7’s endurance testing for cold weather in Sweden. As cool as that is, a more recent development has excitement peaking for interior technology and, of course, the big giant grilles.

It seems that the 2023 BMW i7 is a literal movie theatre on wheels.

Let’s get the elephant in the room out of the way. Yes, it’s got absurdly huge grilles. Where most manufacturers do away with a grille on an electric vehicle, BMW continues to steer straight into what Car and Driver calls “controversial noses.” In a bold move, the newest pictures from BMW seem to show that they’re also lit around the edges, ensuring you couldn’t miss them if you wanted to. One might even think that they’re using these absurd overgrown kidney grilles to intentionally stir up conversation and drive sales. That’s something only someone from BMW’s marketing team could tell you.

What we can say for sure, though, is that the back seat is effectively a movie theatre for rear passengers. Though we don’t have an exact measurement of the screen pictured, its span across both front seat headrests leads us to believe it’s pretty close in size to the 31-inch screen BMW displayed at CES earlier this year. If they are the same, then the BMW i7 has Amazon Fire built-in. This way, you can load your favorite classic Top Gear episodes and listen to Jeremy Clarkson berate BMW owners from the comfort of your BMW.

This isn’t the only interior screen the i7 will have. The images display what BMW calls an “interaction bar.” It appears to be a touchscreen on the door panel’s armrest for various controls. As neat as that sounds, we can already imagine accidentally bumping the driver’s seat position memory button.

The BMW i7 is said to have a pretty impressive driving range

BMW says the i7 has an EPA estimated driving range of 305 miles on a full charge. Given the presumably large size of the luxury sedan, that seems pretty dang impressive. Though, Car and Driver is quick to point out that it falls between 35 and 45 miles shorter than the Mercedes-Benz EQS.

Other features revealed in this photo set in a bit more detail than the test car, including the LED headlights and, as mentioned, the grilles.

The LED headlights resemble slim strips much like the ones found on the iX. This really brings the whole front-end together. Now, the flagship sedan can squint at you as it comes sniffing down the road with its massive nostrils.

All jokes aside, the BMW i7 is shaping up to be a remarkable staple in the world of electric luxury. All the proposed futuristic technology onboard is certainly something to look forward to. For now, though, the world has to sit patiently and wait for its full reveal. Not much information about its release is available. However, Car and Driver reports that the i7 and the rest of the new 7-series lineup will go on sale in the U.S. later this year.
