Rumor has it that trucks are about to get smaller again, like the classic Chevy Blazer or Ford Ranger. Heck, maybe a new Jeep Comanche model will pop up as well.

The Ford Maverick, Ram 700, and Mercedes G-Class might be hitting the streets before we know it.

New Compact Trucks Are Coming

Haven’t you ever noticed while watching off-roading shows that the cooler trucks seem to be in Australia or South America?

Options like the Mitsubishi Triton, Fiat Toro, and Mazda BT-50, own the trails in foreign countries, making us jealous.

Good thing, some new compact trucks could be in the works for us to enjoy soon.

The Ram 700

Fiat has been working on new compact models for a while. With the Jeep Renegade being highly successful, why not work on a truck for the US too?

Plus, it’s a good time for Ram to expand its market as the Ram 1500 could use a little bother to compete in the midsize or compact market.

A few rendered images have surfaced, showing the Fiat Strada four-door truck rebranded as a Ram Laramie.

However, we could see this new, smaller truck under the more popular Dakota name instead of the American option being called the Ram 700.

But the truck would need more power. We won’t settle for a 1.3-liter engine with 109 horsepower here.

We want to see at least something equivalent to the Ranger’s 2.3-liter four-cylinder Ecoboost engine with 270 horsepower would be great.

The Ford Maverick

The Ford Maverick was once a classic sedan, but spy spots have rumors flying about the Maverick’s return as a subcompact truck.

Maverick refers to an unbranded calf that’s separate from the rest of the herd, and that seems appropriate for the new, little two-door truck.

The Maverick is projected to be smaller than the current midsize Ranger. It will also be on a unibody frame, like the Honda Ridgeline and Ford Courier, that’s popular in Brazil.

Like the ‘Baby Bronco’ or Bronco Sport, the Maverick could share the same chassis as the Ford Escape to offer a more rugged, off-roading option. Similar to how the older Ford Escapes used to be.

The Mercedes G-Class

Mercedes has also been busy toying with the idea of introducing a smaller truck to the US. Photo renderings show a new Mercedes G-Class truck with tow doors.

The truck sacrifices the backseat to provide a longer truck bed. Although this could limit the truck’s functionality, it would still have an attitude.

There hasn’t been much information released on these rendering yet, as Mercedes has been pretty busy with ending the production of the X-Class.

However, if Jeep can produce a pickup, then why not Mercedes? Only they’re going smaller instead of larger. This could be because the giant Jeep Gladiator isn’t doing too well.

Also, renderings show that the G-Class pickup truck could have AMG G63, meaning this little truck could have a ton of power.

Imagine the twin-turbocharged V8 engine in this subcompact truck, producing 577 horsepower. This little truck would fly.
