Does the Ford Maverick have brake problems?
Allegedly there are unsolved Ford Maverick brake problems that are pretty frustrating to deal with. If you check the CarComaplints records, then braking issues are the most significant issue related to the 2022 Ford Maverick.
One owner reported that the brake pedal stiffens and becomes unresponsive at low speeds, then suddenly engages to provide an abrupt stop. Reportedly, it has almost caused them to hit the vehicles in front of them.
Another driver shared that the brakes can bite or lock up, but at other times they perform as normal, making them unpredictable.
Some owners have taken their Maverick models into the dealership for service, but the technicians failed to find error codes or the root cause of the problem.
As a result, they instructed drivers to drive less aggressively or that it was related to the weight of the Maveirkc Hybrid.
Did Ford acknowledge the Maverick braking problem?
Yes, Ford is seemingly aware that the Ford Maverick has a potential braking problem. It released a technical service bulletin in an attempt to correct the issue.
Ford shared that the condition of the grabby brakes occurs at speeds under 6.2 miles per hour, and it could be related to the software in the anti-lock brake system module.
Technicians have been instructed to check for software updates related to the anti-lock braking system module, onboard diagnostic control module, and battery energy control module. Then they should perform the updates one at a time.
Does this mean that they don’t have a specific software update to fix the problem? Anyways, then the Maverick should be taken for a test drive to see if the malfunction indicator lamp is triggered by the DTC P0402 code.
If this occurs, then the differential pressure feedback EGR sensor might need to be replaced. This maintenance will be performed at no cost to owners.
However, there are plenty of complaints about the brakes that emerged months after the technical service bulletin was released.

Yes, the Ford Maverick has a recall related to a braking problem. The antilock brake system module may illuminate the brake lights without the driver applying the brakes. Unintended brake light illumination may confuse other drivers and increase the risk of accidents.
