Toyota’s exciting new three-row SUV promises everything consumers like about the brand’s midsize crossover and more. But “more” also means a higher purchase price. Don’t let base MSRPs fool you. Here, we build a budget-conscious 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander so you can see what a real-world out-the-door price looks like. 

The base model is ideal for shoppers on a budget

The entry-level 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander XLE with front-wheel drive carries a base MSRP of $43,070. But the starting price for the all-wheel-drive version without any packages or accessories is $46,005. This model gets 21 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. 

The XLE’s standard powertrain includes a 2.4-liter turbo four-cylinder engine producing 265 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. It pairs with a direct-shift electronically controlled eight-speed automatic transmission.

Exterior elements include 18-inch silver-painted wheels, LED headlights and taillights, and heated power side mirrors.

The base model’s interior has silver-painted door and dashboard trim, seven USB ports, Qi-compatible wireless smartphone charging, digital key compatibility, and three-zone automatic control with an air filter.

As for cargo space, the 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander XLE provides 20.6 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 97.5 cubic feet with the second and third rows folded down.

What is a realistic price for a 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander?

Edmunds data shows the XLE base model is the most popular 2024 Grand Highlander trim. That makes sense because it’s the most affordable. We recommend the XLE but with the hybrid powertrain. Why did we choose the hybrid? When you look at the features, you get pretty much the same items the gas-powered trim offers, except with a fuel-sipping hybrid powertrain. 

The starting MSRP of the Hybrid XLE with AWD is $47,605. What sets it apart is the fuel economy ratings. Toyota touts that it gets an EPA-estimated 36 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway. Sticking with the standard FWD achieves 1 to 2 mpg more in the city and on the highway. 

The Hybrid XLE packs a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and a hybrid motor, generating 245 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque. They pair with an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (CVT).

Adding those items and the $1,395 destination charge to the Hybrid XLE AWD base MSRP brings the out-the-door total of a realistic 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander build to $51,650. And don’t forget the cost savings at the pump thanks to the hybrid powertrain.

For comparison, the starting prices for the higher trims — the Limited and Platinum — are $49,460 and $53,545 with AWD. So, if you added the above packages and accessories to those trims, you’d increase the final price considerably. 

How does the 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander price compare between the base and hybrid models?

Looking back at the gas-powered base model, if you added the above options, accessories, and destination charge, you’d pay around $50,050. Compare that to the out-the-door price of the Grand Highlander Hybrid XLE, and you’ll see only a $1,600 difference between the two builds. 

If you chose the Limited, you’d pay around $54,840 with the same extras. The Platinum would cost even more: $58,925. Regarding value with these models, the Hybrid XLE makes the most sense with the valuable features we included in our sample build. That’s because it doesn’t cost much more than the gas-only version, and you get more fuel savings with the hybrid. 

When looking at the 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander price for each trim level, you’ll see the base model is relatively affordable. But the Hybrid XLE offers better fuel economy for only slightly more money.
