Bring a Trailer Bargain of the Week: 2005 Infiniti G35 Coupe
There’s not a lot of love spared for Infiniti these days. However, Nissan’s luxury brand has released several major hits over the years. And thanks to depreciation, many of the used ones are fairly affordable. For example, the drifter favorite that’s this week’s Bring a Trailer bargain: a 2005 Infiniti G35 Coupe.
The V35 Infiniti G35 Coupe was a more luxurious Nissan 350Z—and a Skyline
If you’re a Fast and Furious fan, you’ve undoubtedly come across or customized a Nissan 350Z. However, Nissan wasn’t the only brand selling a 350Z. In 2003, Infiniti launched its platform sibling, the V35-gen G35 Sport Sedan and Coupe, MotorTrend reports. Over in Japan, though, the G35 had a different name: Skyline.
Yup, while we never got a Skyline GT-R in the US, we did get ‘a’ Skyline in the form of the Infiniti G35. In fact, one G35 model, the G35x, even came with the contemporary Skyline GT-R’s ATTESA AWD system, MT reports. And in 2006 Infiniti introduced a rear-wheel steering option, Autotrader reports. That’s another feature the contemporary Skyline GT-R offered.
In its day, the 2003-2007 Infiniti G35 was “a legitimate rival to the benchmark BMW 3 Series,” The Drive reports. Especially the Coupe, which has wider tires, a lower center of gravity, and sportier suspension than the Sedan, Car and Driver and Automobile report. Oh, and also more power.
Both the V35 Infiniti G35 Coupe and Sedan have the same 3.5-liter V6 as the 350Z. However, not only is it tuned differently between brands, but initially, the Coupe was more powerful than the Sedan. By 2005, though, both G35s had identical outputs, Autoblog reports. Which, for a RWD G35 Coupe with the six-speed manual, is 298 hp and 270 lb-ft, MT reports.
Like the 350Z, the Infiniti G35 Coupe is an excellent sports car, Road & Track reports. It turns in and corners “crisply” with little body roll, and the steering is “precise and quick.” That’s partly why MT named the Coupe its 2003 Car of the Year. The other reason, as our Bring a Trailer car demonstrates below, was for its luxury touches.
The 2005 Infiniti G35 Coupe on Bring a Trailer
Unfortunately, the Infiniti G35 lineup lost its Brembo brakes feature in 2005. However, it kept the four-wheel disc brakes and a limited-slip differential. Plus, Infiniti improved the Sedan’s and Coupe’s interiors and exteriors for 2005, MT reports.
For this manual-equipped 2005 Infiniti G35 Coupe on Bring a Trailer, that means standard leather upholstery, heated outside mirrors, fog lights, LED taillights, aluminum trim, and heated power-adjustable front seats. Plus, traction and stability control, along with Xenon headlights, a first-aid kit, TPMS, and keyless entry.
This 2005 Infiniti G35 Coupe also comes with the optional Aero and Premium Packages. That means it has a functional rear spoiler and diffuser, a power sunroof, automatic headlights, dual-zone climate control, and a Bose audio system. This particular car also came with a 6-disc CD changer, but it’s been replaced with an aftermarket Apple CarPlay-equipped Pioneer touchscreen stereo. However, Bring a Trailer reports the seller is including the factory stereo with the sale.
Admittedly, this 2005 Infiniti G35 Coupe isn’t perfect. It has some nicks and scratches inside and outside, plus the passenger-side one-touch window function doesn’t work. However, it’s mechanically stock and has less than 55,000 miles on the clock. Plus, it has an accident-free history, and the seller recently changed both the oil and the engine belts.
It’s a well-preserved sports car bargain
As of this writing, this 2005 Infiniti G35 6MT Coupe is listed on Bring a Trailer at $8600 with three days left in the auction. Given its condition and mileage, that’s a below-average market price.
Examples of a similar vintage and mileage easily cost 25%-50% more on Autotrader. And previous G35 Bring a Trailer auctions have seen the cars sell in the $15,000-$20,000 range. Given these cars’ similarities with the 350Z, clean examples are getting harder to find, Drifted reports. Also, you can truthfully say you own a Skyline.
