Bring a Trailer Charity of the Week: 2021 Honda Africa Twin Overland Expo SEMA Build
Not every car or bike auction is about making money or clearing up some storage space. Auctions can also be for good causes, which is the situation we find ourselves in this week. With its off-road and overlanding modifications—detailed below—the 2021 Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports ES DCT listed this week on Bring a Trailer is already a bargain adventure bike. But bidding on it won’t just nab you an ADV—it also benefits a charity.

While it first debuted as a road-legal replica of the Paris Dakar-winning NXR750, the Honda Africa Twin has enjoyed a strong international following. And in 2016, US riders finally got a chance to experience it when Honda brought it here.
Since then, Honda has upgraded the Africa Twin lineup. In 2018, the adventure bike got an upscale trim, the Adventure Sports, with additional off-road and touring features. And following a displacement increase in 2020, Honda introduced its praiseworthy six-speed DCT as an optional extra. That brings us to the latest, most tricked-out version of the historic ADV: the 2021 Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports ES DCT.
For 2021, all Honda Africa Twins have taller handlebars, narrower seats and removable rear subframes, and a 6.5” TFT display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The adventure bike also has standard selectable cornering ABS, wheelie control, cruise control, six riding modes, and torque control (essentially traction control). Plus, dual-sport tires and spoked wheels are standard, as is a lightweight lithium-ion battery.
The Africa Twin Adventure Sports ES’s features list, though, goes even further. First, the ‘ES’ part refers to its electronically-adjustable Showa suspension. This higher trim also has a larger and thicker skid plate, tubeless tires, heated grips, a larger fuel tank, and an adjustable windshield, Cycle World reports. And while hard-sided aluminum luggage cases are still optional, the aluminum rear rack is standard.
Overland Expo modified this adventure bike on Bring a Trailer for its Ultimate Overland Motorcycle Build
The 2021 Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports ES DCT currently listed on Bring a Trailer has even more features, though. That’s because this adventure bike, nicknamed ‘Razzle Dazzle,’ was modified by Overland Expo as part of the 2021 Ultimate Overland Motorcycle Build. And it’s already proven itself on several excursions throughout the Rocky Mountains.
Beefing the Africa Twin Adventure Sports ES for those trips meant adding some helpful equipment. Overland Expo replaced the standard skid plate with an Outback Motortek unit and matching crash bars. The team replaced the rear rack with an Outback Motortek rack, too, and added one of the supplier’s center stands. This Honda Africa Twin also has folding mirrors from Doubletake Mirror and auxiliary LED lighting from Denali Electronics.
But wait, there’s more. Overland Expo enlarged the brake pedal with an AltRider DualTech controller and installed Heideneau K 60 Scout tires. The team added AltTech radiator guards, too. This Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports ES also sports a Garmin Zumo XT navigation system, inReach Mini GPS, KonTour two-up seat, and custom-front-mounted Superwinch electronic winch. Plus, it has Jesse Luggage hard cases and soft luggage from Wolfman Motorcycle Luggage.
Being that Overland Expo team members rode this Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports ES through the Rockies, it’s not cosmetically perfect. The panniers, engine case, and frame bear a few scratches. But it only has 7300 miles on the clock and comes with the factory literature and some tire-changing irons.
After its time at SEMA 2021, Overland Expo is auctioning its 2021 Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports ES DCT for charity
As of this writing, Overland Expo’s modified 2021 Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports ES DCT is on display at SEMA 2021. So, if you want to look the ADV over before bidding on it, you can.
Speaking of bidding, all proceeds from the BaT auction—including the buyer’s fee—go to the 501(c)(3) Overland Expo Foundation. It’s a non-profit organization that helps fund and support members of the overlanding community. That includes funding trail restoration and cleanup efforts, public land protection, education, and impactful travelers and overlanders.
As of this writing, the Overland Expo Africa Twin Adventure Sports ES is listed at $17,500 with three days left in the auction. That might seem expensive, but it’s worth noting that a brand-new 2021 example with DCT starts at $17,999. So, with all those modifications and real-world testing, this adventure bike’s arguably a bargain. That means you can head off on your adventure knowing you’ve helped the overlanding community out without breaking the bank.
