Some sports car enthusiasts consider the Honda S2000 one of the last great driver’s cars. Being S2000 fans ourselves, we can’t blame them. The S2000 features a driver-centric cockpit devoid of most creature comforts found in normal passenger cars. Additionally, the high-revving naturally-aspirated engine under the hood favors the RPM band’s redline portion, making it great for the track.

However, Honda upped the ante on its sporty roadster by introducing the S2000 CR in 2008. This version included some track-focused upgrades and was only available in limited quantities. But this week, you can have an S2000 CR of your own if you bid your top dollar on Bring a Trailer.

What’s so great about the Honda S2000 CR?

The Honda S2000 CR is kind of a throwback to the days when amateur track enthusiasts drove their cars to the track, raced them, and then drove them home. As such, the CR stands for “Club Racer,” and Honda built only 1,400 copies of this special edition between 2008 and 2009.

Limited quantities aside, the S2000 CR built upon the original version with the addition of stiffer struts and springs, stickier tires, and a quicker steering ratio. The CR also has an aggressive front spoiler and a shopping cart-like rear wing that’s functional, believe it or not.

Additionally, a hardtop covers the car in place of the soft (which was deleted). Gone were the leather seats, which were replaced by cloth-covered buckets designed to keep the occupants in place during heavy cornering. Honda even deleted the air conditioning and radio to make it a fully focused track car. However, those features could be added for an extra $1,000.

Under the hood, the S2000 CR carried the same 2.2-liter engine found in the standard car. It made 237 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque, which was great for the autocross track, but not for the dragstrip. The CR could get up to 60 mph from a stop in 5.7 seconds, which is slow by today’s standards.

Of course, high-RPM fun is what this car was about. It is a Club Racer, after all. Lastly, the S2000 CR was available in three different colors: Apex Blue Pearl, Berlina Black, and Rio Yellow Pearl.

Now that you know how rare and special the Honda S2000 CR was, you can get one of your own this week. There’s a live auction on Bring a Trailer for a pristine 2008 model in Berlina Black with 53,000 miles on the odometer. According to the description on the auction site, the S2000 CR in question only had around 40,000 miles on it when it was purchased by the current seller in 2014. Since then, they added about 13,000 miles, and it looks like they took great care of it.

Furthermore, the CarFax report shows a clean title with no accidents on the record. However, it does look like there were five previous owners, which isn’t too unheard of for a sports car.

Many sports car owners buy them as a second or third car that only gets driven on the weekends. As such, it’s not uncommon for a sports car like the Honda S2000 to change hands somewhat frequently as owners get tired of them.

This particular S2000 CR looks mostly unmodified, save for a K&N intake and a front strut tower bar. Otherwise, the stock radio is present, and it also has air conditioning. That said, this is a great time to pick your own Honda S2000 CR. As of this writing, the auction has seven days left, and the current bid is at $20,000.

We wouldn’t be surprised to see it end in the $60,000 range. So, be sure to bid your top dollar. At least you know that this rare Honda S2000 is worth the money.
