Broken Audi R8 V10 Gets Twin Turbos and 1,400 HP
Despite its $142,700 price tag, the Audi R8 V10 is a bargain when it comes to mid-engined supercars. Based on the Lamborghini Huracan, the Audi boasts a power output of up to 602 hp and a 0-60 mph time of around three seconds.
However, WhistlinDiesel on YouTube felt that the supercar needed even more punch. As a result, he took it to SheepyRace in California. The result is a total power output of around 1,400 hp.
How did this Audi R8 V10 break in the first place?
Unfortunately, this Audi R8 didn’t start as a broken supercar. In fact, WhistlinDiesel purchased the car from someone in California that had modified it extensively. As a result, the supercar had air suspension, larger wheels, and an upgraded exhaust system. Instead of shipping the car, WhistlinDiesel decided to drive it from California to Indiana.
The Audi R8 broke initially when WhistlinDiesel hit a fox while driving on a rural road. This impact shattered the front bumper, grille, and carbon-fiber splitter. However, the most severe damage from this impact was sustained by the car’s front-mounted radiators. After leaking a significant amount of coolant, the supercar began to overheat.
What started as an attempt to fix the Audi R8’s radiator quickly turned into more destruction when WhistlinDiesel decided to rip the front bumper. As a result, the supercar was left in the state shown in the image embedded above. However, from there, it was sent to California for some significant upgrades.
Two turbos bump the power output to 1,400 HP
This broken Audi R8 eventually landed in the hands of SheepyRace, a performance shop in California. Aside from fixing the front end, a twin-turbo kit was also installed. Additionally, the air-suspension was replaced with a set of brand-new coilovers. Since the turbocharged R8 now makes around 1,400-hp, it required a solid suspension setup.
On top of adding power, SheepyRace also beefed up the standard seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Given the added power, the standard transmission components would have likely shattered.
To test out his refreshed Audi R8, WhistlinDiesel took it to partake in some street racing. Part of what made these runs interesting is that it puts in context, just how fast the R8 is with its twin-turbo kit. While we don’t have exact performance figures, a twin-turbo R8 by Underground Racing managed to complete the quarter-mile in 7.695 seconds at 196.76 mph.
How much does this conversion cost?
Thanks to SheepyRace, we know exactly how much this Audi R8 build will cost you. If you want the base Stage 1 package, it’ll cost you $35,000 and will deliver 800-hp on pump gas. If you want to add in a standalone ECU, you have to bump into the Stage 1+ package for $47,000.
To get 1,000-hp with e85 from your Audi R8, you’ll need the Stage 2 package for $58,000. This also brings you a flex-fuel kit and a fire suppression system. Stage 2+ for $67,000 gets you upgraded race clutches for the transmission and a billet drive gear. This kit develops up to 1,200-hp on e85 and jumps from 60 mph to 130 mph in 3.5 seconds.
Next up is the Mac Daddy Package for $110,000. For this, you get up to 1,400-hp on e85, billet drive year, billet input shafts, a Quaife limited-slip differential, and a billet intake manifold. On top of that, you get upgraded wheels and tires to handle the added power.
The range-topping kit from SheepyRace is the Stage 3 for $140,000. For this, you get 1,600-hp, a built motor with forged internals, as well as all of the upgrades from the lower stages. As a result, this is about as bullet-proof as it gets for the Audi R8.
