There’s not much to complain about when it comes to the Mercedes Sprinter. It works great as a work van or a camper van. It’s got plenty of power, and it looks great. Each model year also seems to get better and better.

The 2021 model is offering an electric engine that might not be the best for camping life, but it’s great for the environment. It’s got tons of room, making it perfect for taking road trips. 

The price isn’t exactly budget-friendly, but it’s a Mercedes-Benz model, so that’s not all that surprising. The 2020 model starts at $34,495 and tops out around $62,820. Many potential owners may choose to skip this price by going with a used Mercedes, but you might want to hold off for a while. Used models are facing some heat because of electronic problems that can’t be ignored. 

The recall can be potentially dangerous

If you own a 2012-2018 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, you may need to get it into your local dealership due to a new recall. The electronic stability control unit can become deactivated without warning.

This may not seem like that big of a deal, but it can be very dangerous for drivers. According to Car Complaints, “If a driver loses stability control, warning lights and messages will activate in the instrument panels and the driver may have trouble controlling the van in certain driving situations.”

It’s been estimated that 52,600 vans fitted into campers or RVs in the U.S. and Canada will be recalled. This isn’t the first recall on the Sprinter, and it probably won’t be the last. Yet it is dangerous enough that owners need to have it addressed. Thankfully, Mercedes-Benz is on it and has figured out a way to fix this problem.

Mercedes-Benz is focused on fixing the problem

This Mercedes Sprinter problem might be dangerous, but the solution is fairly simple. According to Car Complaints, “Mercedes dealers will replace the rear wheel speed sensors with sensors that do a better job protecting against moisture.”

Owners who need to get the sensors replaced will be notified by Mercedes-Benz soon, by two letters. The first will let the owner know about the potential sensor problems, and the second will alert owners when the parts are available at their local dealership.
