Last week, Bugatti president Stephan Winkelmann announced the Chiron Super Sport 300+, an even faster version of the Chiron. Before you think about buying one, check out these eight facts that make the car so cool (and expensive).

1. Sky-High Price 

If you want to buy a Chiron Super Sport 300+, you’ll need to come up with €3.5 million (currently $3.89 million). One of the 30 cars scheduled for production was already purchased at the gala dinner given as part of the Grand Tour celebrating 110 years of the Bugatti company. The cars will be delivered to buyers in mid-2021.

,2. Fastest Car in the Worle

On August 2, the near-production version of the Chiron Super Sport set a speed record as the first hypercar to break 300 mph. It reached a top speed of 490.484 km/h (304.773 mph) on Volkswagen’s 13-mile loop Ehra-Lessien test track in Germany. That means test driver Andy Wallace was going 5.1 miles per minute. The previous record, set in 2017, was held by the Koenigsegg Agera RS going 284.55 mph in Nevada.

3. 300+ mph in Name Only

The Chiron Super Sport 300+ will technically be capable of going 300 mph, but it will have a speed limiter. While the pre-production car maxed at 304.773 mph (490.484 kph), the 30 cars being produced will be electronically limited to a still-to-be-determined lower speed. Top Gear reports that buyers may be able to remove the speed limiter, though, and possibly add a roll-cage. They may also be able to drive at the Ehra-Lessien track too.

4. Thor’s Engine

The Chiron Super Sport 300+ will use a 1,578-horsepower quad-turbocharged 8.0-liter W16 engine that has been nicknamed Thor. The car has 99 horsepower more than the standard Chiron and the same output as the Bugatti Centodieci. It will have a seven-speed, dual-clutch all-wheel-drive system. It’s expected to go from 0-to-60 mph in less than 2.4 seconds, the same as the Centodieci.

5. Downforce Bodywork

The car’s body design keeps it from going airborne like a plane, important since the car can go faster than planes at takeoff. Its aerodynamic longtail rear is 9.8 inches longer than a standard Chiron, plus it has vents above the front wheels and a different rear diffuser. The fixed rear wing reduces drag. The overall design adds downforce and reduces drag.

6. Ultra-Luxury Interior

The consumer version of the car will have some changes from the record-setting version to make it more comfortable and road legal. The ride height will be standard. The car will come with a leather passenger seat (as opposed to no seat), and the driver’s seat will match rather than being a lightweight safety-grade race seat. There’s also no standard roll-cage. Buyers will be able to work with Bugatti to customize their own cars.

7. Carbon Fiber Everywhere

This car is full of carbon fiber, a super-strong, super-light polymer with carbon. It has a naked carbon fiber body, leaving the black carbon fibers visible. The engine cover and the windscreen wiper are also made of carbon fiber. There’s lots of carbon fiber trim inside the car too, along with Alcantara and leather. The body will also have orange stripes to match the prototype.

8. Upgraded Michelin tires

For the speed test, Bugatti and Michelin added a layer of carbon fiber to reinforce the standard Chiron Michelin Pilot Cup 2 tires. The same tires, mounted to very light magnesium wheels, are expected to appear on the new Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+.
