Each year, Chevrolet wins numerous awards from J.D. Power. For instance, last year, the 2019 Chevy Silverado 2500HD and 2019 Chevy Suburban earned accolades as the most reliable vehicles in their segments. In addition, owners said the 2019 Chevy Impala had very few maintenance issues in 2022.

Six Chevy models also earned J.D. Power’s Initial Quality Award. This study examines which vehicles have the fewest problems during the first 90 days of ownership. Here are all the winning cars, trucks, and SUVs.

Owners love these new Chevy SUVs and trucks

In the compact SUV segment, J.D. Power studies reveal the Chevy Equinox is likely to have the fewest maintenance or repair issues. The 2022 model has a 170-hp turbocharged engine, returning about 28 mpg combined city/highway. 

Tech features are often some of the first to encounter problems, whether from glitches or otherwise. The Equinox has many standard features, including a safety suite and wireless smartphone integration. You can also expect optional features, such as navigation and a larger touchscreen, to function without many software hiccups.

Larger families can feel confident in the quality of the Chevy Tahoe, which has seating for up to eight riders. In addition, this SUV also has more optional features than the Equinox, including a Bose sound system and adaptive suspension. 

The Chevy Tahoe Z71 adds more off-roading features, including a bigger engine air filter and a two-speed transfer case. Extra features usually mean more potential repairs, so it’s heartening that the Tahoe holds up in that regard.

The Chevy Silverado 1500 bested even the Ford F-150 in resale value and initial quality. One of the most attractive new features for this model year is Super Cruise, available only in the High Country trim. This advanced cruise control function controls braking, acceleration, and even steering at highway speeds.

The Chevy Silverado also has two reliable V8s, a turbo-four, and an inline-six turbodiesel for engine options. The 2022 model boasts a maximum cargo capacity of 13,300 pounds. And the Silverado 2500HD, also a J.D. Power Initial Quality Award winner, can tow up to 18,500 pounds.

The 2022 Chevy Malibu is a solid midsize sedan

The Malibu is the only sedan you’ll find in Chevrolet’s lineup, currently priced at a competitive $26,095. It pairs a 160-hp turbo-four engine with a continuously variable transmission and front-wheel drive. Its standard features include what you’d expect from most other Chevy cars.

The 2022 Chevy Corvette impresses inside and out

Corvette owners should be satisfied with the reliability of this car’s powertrain, a 490-hp V8 matched with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Brembo brakes are standard, and you can get most other performance-spec features through available packages.

It can also be optioned with a few different spoilers, but the Corvette looks sporty straight off the production line. Inside, the Corvette has room for two in sporty bucket seats with leather upholstery. It even boasts a handful of convenience and safety features, though arguably not enough for its $60,000-plus price point.

How fast does initial quality fade over time?

J.D. Power assures drivers that Initial Quality Award winners will likely be some of the most reliable vehicles. That certainly seems to be the case for the Chevy Silverado 2500HD. The Impala was absent this year because it was discontinued in 2020.

The Chevy Suburban wasn’t far behind the Tahoe, ranking second for initial quality in the large SUV segment. Given Chevy’s proven track record for reliability, any of these vehicles would likely last for a couple hundred thousand miles with proper care.
