One of the major selling points of the new Ford Maverick is its affordable price point. For around $20,000, you can get the benefits of a small pickup truck and a hybrid engine. But, on the used market, the 2022 Maverick is anything but cheap. Some models are pushing near $40,000, which certainly takes away from the value proposition. So, is it worth buying a used Ford Maverick?

Should you buy a used Ford Maverick?

The Ford Maverick has a starting price of just $20,995, and that makes it a fairly affordable small truck. Even the top trim Lariat starts at under $30,000. But, on the used market, pricing is a different story. According to Ford Authority, even new Mavericks at the dealership are getting marked up.

Currently, there are 2022 Ford Maverick XLT models listed online with asking prices of nearly $40,000. And that is a pretty significant price increase over Ford’s initial MSRP. Even with this mark-up, it seems folks who have the budget are willing to pay over sticker price.

Why is the Ford Maverick so expensive?

Although the 2022 Maverick started out cheap, this small truck has become fairly expensive. And that is likely due to supply and demand. Simply put, there are not enough Maverick trucks out there to meet the number of folks who want to buy one.

The Maverick has actually been so popular that if you want to order one, you will have to wait for the 2023 model. And that is just another impact that supply chain issues are having on the automotive industry. Hopefully, in the future, Ford can get a handle on the supply side of things. That way, the Maverick can remain an affordable truck, even on the used market.

When can you buy a 2023 Maverick?

2023 Ford Maverick orders were supposed to open in August, but now that date has been pushed back. September 15th should be the day that you can order the 2023 Maverick, so it is coming up fast. Once orders open up, it might be a good idea to place your order quickly. That way, you do not miss out on Ford’s small truck.

In addition to orders being pushed back, apparently, production is pushed back as well. So, once you do buy one, you will not get it as soon as expected. And that will be a bit of a disappointment to some. Especially those who have been waiting a while to get behind the wheel of a Maverick.

For 2023, there will be some updates to the Maverick. These include things like the new Tremor package, which gives this compact pickup even more off-road capability. It is also possible that some features reserved for the top two trims will find their way to the base model. Rumors have been circulating that there could be a plug-in hybrid Maverick, but that has not yet been confirmed.

For now, the Maverick will continue to have a hybrid powertrain as well as an optional EcoBoost engine.
