The updated 2023 Chevy Suburban will be coming to dealers soon. The 2023 Chevy Suburban SUV will get some significant technology upgrades for 2023. The Suburban was all-new for 2021 so the updates for 2022 and 2023 are more technology-related than anything else. But, should you wait for the updates or snap up a 2022 Chevy Suburban now, possibly at a discount as dealers are looking to get rid of older models before this fall?

The updated 2023 Suburban gets Super Cruise, an option that was premium on last year’s Cadillac Escalade. You can now order Super Cruise on higher-level 2023 Suburban trims. The system, which is GM’s hands-free driver assistance technology for compatible roads, is planned for the Premier and High Country versions of the Suburban. Like in the 2022 Chevy Suburban, Chevy Safety Assist is standard. That system includes automatic braking, collision alerts, pedestrian braking, and much more.

What else is new for the updated 2023 Chevy Suburban from the 2022 Chevy Suburban?

The Chevy Suburban saw a major update in 2021, and the big updates are in technology and some options. For 2023, the Suburban’s Z71 off-road package gets available air ride suspension or the Magnetic Ride Control. A new black grille is available, as well as new camera views from the 360-degree system. There are also three new colors available, including the new Radiant Red Tintcoat.  

This year, however, there are more competitors to the big SUV, including the new 2023 Toyota Sequoia.

The 2023 Chevy Suburban keeps the big V8 power

While many were expecting chevy to launch a higher-performance variant of the updated 2023 Suburban, that hasn’t materialized yet. But, the 2023 will keep the stonking 6.2-liter V8 that has 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque that is hooked up to a 10-speed automatic. That engine has not been rated for the 2023 Suburban, but the 2022 gets an EPA estimated 14 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway, in two-wheel-drive vehicles.

The 5.3-liter V8 with 355 horsepower is standard. A 3-liter turbocharged inline-six diesel is also optional. Chevy says the Suburban’s maximum trailer weight of 8,300 pounds is achieved with the 5.3-liter and the trailering package.

What was new for the 2022 Chevy Suburban?

In 2022 there wasn’t much new over the updated 2021 version, overall. The 6.2-liter V8 was available on more trims, as well as the electronic limited-slip differential on the Z71 off-road package. Mostly, Chevy updated the technology that you can get in the 2022 Suburban. For 2022, Chevy added Google Assistant and Maps, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, park assist, and more. Owners of 2022 Suburbans reported to J.D. Power they loved the driving experience and the high resale value of the SUV.
