The order books for the new 2023 Ford F-150 will open in mid-July. But why wait? The 2022 Ford F-150 is the best-selling vehicle in North America for a reason. The new 2023 Ford F-150 truck will have some upgrades, most notably the new Heritage edition and some new trim levels, but beyond that is worth your time to find a leftover 2022 on your local dealer’s lot?

Ford hasn’t said much, but it looks like the big changes will be in styling that makes the standard F-150 echo the groundbreaking Ford F-150 Lightning’s. The front of the 2023 has the shoulders and headlights of the EV truck. The new Heritage editions will have retro two-tone paint jobs. We’re expecting the current hybrid motors to carry over, as well as the clever Pro Power Onboard options. Pricing will be released for the new trucks when the order books open in mid-July for the new 2023 Ford F-150.

The Rattler off-road package is also expected to continue in 2023.

When Ram launched the monster TRX with a 702-horsepower supercharged V8, it put the Ford Raptor on notice. The Raptor was the king of factory off-road trucks with its 450-horsepower supercharged V6 and suspension that let it bound over the desert like a trophy truck. Now, Ford is responding to Ram and putting the Shelby GT500 Mustang motor into the 2023 Raptor, adding an R to the name, and making off-road fans salivate.

But good luck finding a 2022 Ford F-150 to buy

The F-150 is a popular truck, to be sure. Because of that popularity, and a few production snafus caused by the chip shortage and other supply-chain issues. It’s hard to even find one, let alone buy a 2022 Ford F-150 because they’re sold out. The 2022 order books were closed back in May for every F-150 but Raptors. But, local dealers saw this coming and ordered ahead and most local dealers still have a few new 2022 F-150s on their lots.

If you want a 2022 Ford F-150, take a look at the hybrid

Big trucks are now getting hybrid power, too, and the electric boost is welcome for folks who like to save gas and haul stuff. Toyota launched I-FORCE MAX hybrid in 2022, and Ram has long had its eTorque mild hybrid on its V8s.

Ford has done a lot to make its full-sized trucks more fuel-efficient over the years. It was the first, for example, to make an aluminum frame for its trucks to save weight and thus fuel. The 2021 and 2022 F-150s have active grille shutters to deploy an air dam, for example. The Ford F-150 Hybrid now uses a 3.5-liter V6 to make a ton of power. It was the first hybrid full-size truck, and the system is an option on every trim level, from XL to Limited. It makes 430 horsepower thanks to a 47-horsepower boost from the system. The Ford integrates the hybrid system into its 10-speed automatic, too. With the hybrid system, you can order Pro Power Onboard that comes with household power outlets for tools and more.
