New 2023 Ram 1500 trucks are on their way to dealers this fall with some minor updates. Are the updates worth waiting for? If you don’t absolutely need a larger touchscreen or a bigger hood scoop, a 2022 Ram 1500 may be what you need. Dealers are getting ready for new 2023 models to hit the lot and, traditionally, this is the season to get a good deal on a current-year vehicle.  So should you buy a 2022 Ram 1500 Crew Cab or wait?

The Ram 1500 was last redesigned in 2019. The all-new truck looked like an evolution of the previous version on the outside, but underneath it got a new frame and massively-improved interiors as Ram realized that most people actually spend time inside their trucks. The redesign was so successful that the Ram earned Motor Trend’s Truck of the Year honor for two years in a row. But, other truck manufacturers are stepping up to compete. It has also made Car and Driver‘s 10 Best list for four consecutive years.

Consumer Reports praises the Ram 1500 mainly for its refinement over other trucks. That 2019 refresh did raise the bar for other truck companies. But the Ram’s powerful V8 option and its eTorque mild-hybrid option give it even more oomph, especially off the line. While the big engine option doesn’t get the greatest gas mileage (15 city, 22 highway), it has the torque and power truck buyers need for things like towing and hauling.

The big news is that the new Ram 1500 will get a new instrument cluster and some styling updates. Spy shots have shown that new trucks may have a different hood scoop. There’s a possibility that the new Hurricane inline-six-cylinder could become the base engine on the trucks in 2023 instead of the old Pentastar V6. But, other than a few minor details, it looks like trucks won’t get a significant refresh until 2024. The new Ram EV truck is expected to debut for 2024, and it will most likely influence the redesign of the 1500. So if you want to buy a 2022 Ram 1500, there won’t be many updates to consider.
