The Toyota Sequoia is finally seeing an upgrade for 2023, and it’s ready to take on the best-selling full-sized SUV in America, the Chevy Tahoe. But is it ready? The 2023 will be a huge upgrade from the previous version that was big, slow, got horrible gas mileage, and looked like it was from the Triassic. Meanwhile, Chevy has been steadily upgrading the Tahoe and upgraded it for 2021. The two do have a lot in common: they’re built on truck frames, they can have off-road ability, three rows of seating, and they’re both built in Texas. But there are four major reasons to buy a 2023 Chevy Tahoe over a Toyota Sequoia.

1: The Tahoe is cheaper

One great reason to buy a 2022 Chevy Tahoe is because its less expensive than a Sequoia, and other full-sized SUVs.

The 2023 Sequoia starts at $58,300. Pricing hasn’t been released for the 2023 Tahoe, but it should start around $52,000, like the 2022 Chevy Tahoe. You can buy a lot of 2023 Chevy Tahoe SUV for that money. The base LS trim level features tri-zone automatic climate control, a six-speaker audio system, 10-way power driver’s seat and eight-way power passenger seat CarPlay and Android Auto, HD rear camera with hitch guidance, and collision alerts and more. And, if you up-spec your Tahoe, you can get the magic Super Cruise.

2: You get a V8 standard if you buy a 2023 Chevy Tahoe

The Tahoe gets a standard 5.3-liter V8 or the optional 6.2 liter V8 that makes 420 horsepower. The Tahoe has an optional diesel that makes 460 lb-ft of torque. Though the Toyota has the new i-FORCE MAX hybrid engine, it’s just a V6. But it can tow more than the Chevy. The Toyota engine may make more power, but if you like a V8 and its smooth power, stick with the Chevy.

3: The Chevy gets Magnetic Ride Control

There’s a reason Corvettes handle so well, and that’s because they have magnetic ride shocks. The shocks that Corvettes get can also be tuned for off-road duty and with the Z71 trim and RST trim, they can be fitted to the Tahoe. Speaking of shocks, the Tahoe has an independent suspension in the rear that allowed Chevy to fit a lower floor in the back. The Z71 package stacks up well to Toyota’s TRD Pro trim level for the Sequoia aby adding lots of leather, a 10-speed automatic, skid plates, and even an optional air-suspension package.

Toyota’s off-road TRD trim levels on its trucks are super popular, and for good reason. The TRD options add some extra off-road capability and in the Sequoia the TRD Pro model will be offered in only with four-wheel drive. The system has a center console-mounted transfer case to select between four-high, four-low and two-wheel-drive, just like the Chevy.

4: The Tahoe is bigger
