You Can Buy a Right-Hand Wrangler From Jeep
In 2022 you can still buy a Jeep Wrangler with the steering wheel on the right side. That’s right, you can buy a right-hand-drive Wrangler in the modern era. While this new Jeep SUV is made for the United States Postal Service and other delivery truck needs, it is possible to buy one. So, why is that? Jeep understands that some drivers require a 4×4 SUV that features the steering wheel on the opposite side that you would expect, but this Wrangler model does have its limits.
Does Jeep sell a RHD Wranger?
Jeep does sell a RHD Wrangler for 2022. It is available only with the turbodiesel engine and only features the eight-speed automatic transmission. Because of that, you can only get this rugged SUV with diesel power, so do not expect to buy a new one with the V6 engine that is featured on many Wrangler models.
If you were wondering why you would want to buy a Jeep Wrangler with a right-hand drive configuration, the answer is quite simple. You are someone who needs to deliver mail or various packages. This feature allows drivers to easily reach mailboxes without having to exit the vehicle or enter into traffic. Which is a callback to the iconic Jeep DJ mail truck.
Can the 2022 RHD Jeep Wrangler come well-equipped?
Unfortunately, Jeep Wrangler models with a right-hand drive configuration are not that well equipped. Most buyers who purchase this vehicle likely live in rural areas and need to be able to deliver the mail in all kinds of conditions. Because of this, the Wrangler with RHD still offers a cold-weather package. This package adds things like heated seats, a heated steering wheel, and remote start. This means even when the temperature outside drops, you can still stay warm.
Outside of that, this version of the Wrangler is fairly basic. According to Jalopnik, it will still feature four doors and can come with a variety of paint options, but do not expect to get a RHD Wrangler with the latest tech features.
Does USPS still buy Jeeps?
The United States Postal Service does not currently employ a fleet of Jeep mail trucks. While it did in the past, those Jeep DJ models were replaced by the Grumman LLV delivery vehicle. But for some rural mail carriers, the capability of a Jeep is still required. Hence why FCA still offers a right-hand-drive version of the Wrangler.
Now, if you are looking to buy a new Jeep Wrangler and do not need to deliver packages, you probably should not buy this vehicle. The United States has an infrastructure that is based around drivers steering from the left side. That said, it is still fun that Jeep builds a RHD Wrangler, even though it is limited to using the diesel engine.
It’s not clear how much longer Jeep intends to offer this model in the American market. But so long as it does, buyers have the option to equip their Wrangler with right-hand drive, something that is legitimately exciting and different from other SUVs on the road today.
