You have the chance to buy one of the most iconic cartoon vans ever in Burlington, North Carolina. A replica of the Scooby-Doo Mystery Machine has been posted for sale on Facebook Marketplace. 

Kevin Allen Coombs is the current owner, and he bought the van 15 years ago. He hoped driving it around town would cheer him up and spread jot to others after serving 18 months in Kuwait and Iraq. 

He returned with PTSD and wanted a project to keep him busy. Keven shared that if you have too much time to sit around and think, then all you do is sit around and think. He explained that it’s never good to be inside your own head for too long. 

This project really helped. Kevin said, “Everyone calls me Shaggy. Before I grew my beard out, it was kept to where I looked like him. I pretty much dressed like Shaggy from the Scooby-Doo movie, to be recognized as him.” 

He continued to share, “I loved cartoons when I was a kid, and I know just about everybody likes Scooby-Doo.” 

So here is our mystery to solve. Why would Shaggy want to sell his iconic Scooby-Doo Mystery Van replica? 

Why is Shaggy selling the Scooby-Doo van? 

Shaggy explained that it’s time for someone with the time and energy to take over and enjoy the Scooby-Doo Mystery Machine. “It breaks my heart. It absolutely breaks my heart,” Shaggy explained. 

“I have really severe difficulty with diabetes and other complications where I can’t feel my feet anymore. I have problems where I pass out randomly. With all my medical problems, I can’t safely get behind the wheel of a vehicle anymore. So rather than let it sit around and rot, I want to sell it and let someone else enjoy it.”

He also warns potential new owners that it’s not a vehicle you can pull in somewhere and expect to get out of there quickly. It’s going to be a two-hour trip to Walmart. 

What is the Mystery Machine? 

The Scooby-Doo Mystery Machine being sold by Shaggy is a 1966 Ford Econoline van. He’s asking $10,000 for it. It’s racked up 300,000 miles and has a manual transmission. It’s probably a three-speed manual transmission, and it could have a 101 hp engine with 154 lb-ft of torque. 

According to the listing, the van has been kept in a garage with a custom-painted exterior. The custom interior includes green shag carpet, Scooby-Doo vinyl seats, and floor mats with two front seats. 

The Mystery Machine needs minor rust repair. Plus, the engine might need some TLC because it’s been sitting for two years.
