Not many people think of this Italian car brand as a means for an attainable, everyday luxury car, but buying your own Maserati could be more affordable than you think. You can save over $70K by purchasing a used Maserati. But before doing so, here’s what you should know.
Used Maseratis are pretty cheap
Many drivers are surprised by how cheap it is to buy a used Maserati. Two of the automaker’s best-selling models are the Maserati Ghibli and the Maserati Quattroporte. These ultra-luxury sedans deliver on exceptional power and elegance inside and out.
According to a recent study, the Quattroporte and the Ghibli have the highest three-year depreciation rates in the sports car category. Both of these models have three-year depreciation rates of over 50 percent. The steep depreciation rates are a result of their high starting prices. You can get either a Quattroporte or Ghibli from the 2017 model year for under $40K.

About the 2017 Quattroporte
The Quattroporte is Maserati’s flagship sedan known for its rich driving experience. On the Quattroporte S and S Q4 models, you get a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine that creates 404-horsepower. For more power, you can opt for the Quattroporte GTS that features a 523-hp 3.8-liter V8 engine. Each model is linked to an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission.
On the inside, the Quattroporte provides a gorgeous cabin complete with leather upholstery and a power sunroof. Its seats are supportive, and there’s plenty of room for five passengers. Tech fans will also especially appreciate Ghibli. This sedan comes standard with an 8.4-inch touchscreen display plus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The 2017 Ghibli is also an enticing option
The 2017 Maserati Ghibli is all about style and glamour since there aren’t many practical aspects of this sedan. This model is available with two different powertrains. The standard Ghibli and the Ghibli S feature a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine that generates 345-hp and 369 lb-ft of torque.
The S Q4 variant with all-wheel-drive features the same V6, but it’s tuned to produce 404-hp and 406 lb-ft of torque. No matter which engine you choose, you’ll find that the Ghibli offers plenty of power. However, experts at Kelley Blue Book noted that the Ghibli doesn’t always feel smooth when turning tight corners. On the plus side, the Ghibli offers a long list of standard tech features just like the Quattroporte.
There is a huge disclaimer here though
As you have probably heard, Maserati isn’t known for its reliability, and its vehicles are expensive to maintain. While buying a used Maserati is enticing primarily because of the discounted price tags, neither the Quattroporte nor the Ghibli has strong reliability ratings from experts such as Consumer Reports. The 2017 Quattroporte has six NHTSA vehicle safety recalls; the 2017 Ghibli has five. Because of this, we wouldn’t necessarily recommend these models as ideal daily drivers.
