Most Jeep models tend to hold their value pretty well. The same can obviously be said for the Jeep Wrangler. According to CarEdge, the Wrangler will only depreciate 30% after five years of ownership. For a used SUV, that’s pretty impressive. For used SUV shoppers, however, that can make buying a used Jeep Wrangler pretty expensive. 

It turns out Jeep Wranglers hold their value quite well

As we mentioned before, CarEdge reports that the Jeep Wrangler will only depreciate 30% after 5 years. According to CarEdge, it also ranks number two overall when it comes to maintaining its value at the 5-year and the 7-year mark. CarEdge isn’t the only outlet lauding the Wrangler over its resale value either. iSeeCars reports that the average depreciation rate of a vehicle over five years is 49.6%. However, the four-door Wrangler only depreciates at a rate of 30%.

Not too long ago the Jeep Wrangler was recognized for having the best residual value in its class too. According to ALG, the 2020 model is “projected to hold the highest percentage of their Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) after a three-year period.” That wasn’t the first time the Wrangler was able to score the award either.

At the time of its win, Eric Lyman, Chief Industry Analyst at ALG, a subsidiary of TrueCar, said, “With its iconic design, off-road prowess and comfort and technology features, the Jeep Wrangler continues to attract an enthusiastic customer base. Winning the ALG Residual Value Award consecutively in the Off-road Utility segment, Wrangler is demonstrating to consumers that it’s much more than just a fun car, it’s also best-in-class in its segment at holding its value.”

The Jeep Wrangler doesn’t just hold its value

High residual value isn’t the only thing driving up the cost of used Jeep Wrangler models. Most Jeep Wrangler models are feature-rich and, according to Off-Roading Pro, offer unmatched off-road capabilities. That shouldn’t really come as a surprise, though. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, the manufacturer of the Jeep Wrangler, is always wokring to make the Jeep Wrangler better than its predecessors. 

It certainly helps that Jeep trail rates its SUVs too. And when it comes to features? The Jeep Wrangler knows just how to please. While it’s available with a long-list of mechanical and exterior features that make it capable enough for spending a day down in the dirt, the Wrangler also offers a load of people-pleasing features that aren’t ready to get down and dirty. Be prepared to spend a pretty penny on this off-road capable SUV

In the end, if you’re in the market for a used Jeep Wrangler that’s in good condition, you can expect to pay a pretty penny for it. Though, for many, that high price is easy to justify. Between its off-road capabilities, premium features, and high residual value, there’s no denying that the Jeep Wrangler has quite a lot going for it.
