Buying the Right 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 Could Be Tricky
Don’t get confused about the new Chevy Silverado 1500. There are two 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 models. So if you want the new truck, but careful not to accidentally buy the old truck. Let’s break the Silverado models down to avoid confusion.
Which 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 is new?
According to The Car Connection, not every 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 model is built equally or even the same. Some models will gain refreshed changes for the new model year, while others will be carryover models.
The Silverado 1500 LTD refers to the carryover model. However, both trucks are being referred to as 2022 Silverados. Chevrolet spokesperson Shad Balch shared that there will be a short period of Silverado overlap as production switches over.
Reportedly, the first half of the 2022 model year run will consist of the current Silverado 1500 LTD model. The second half of the year will be for the refreshed 2022 model. Production overlap could be caused because the Silverado 1500 is produced at two plants.
Where is the 2022 Silverado 1500 being built?
One of the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 plants is located in Fort Wayne, Michigan, and the other is in Silao, Mexican. While one plant continues to produce the Silverado LTD, the other plant was being revised to build the updated model.
The refreshed Chevy Silverado is currently in production and should arrive at dealerships soon. But Another Chevy spokesperson, Megan Soule, declined to comment about which of the two plants is building the new model.
Also, now were are left wondering what will happen at the plant that’s manufacturing current Silverado models. It’s possible that it could be repurposed to build new Silverado models.
It could also be remodeled to focus on building brand new Chevrolet options like the Chevy Silverado EV.
Don’t hesitate to buy your new truck if you want the Silverado LTD. The Silverado LTD is expected to start selling out by late April, which is only a few weeks away. Chevrolet expects the inventory to be diminished by the late summer.
Both trucks will arrive at dealerships at the same time, and the changeover should be fairly limited. Some trucks are being sold before they even arrive, as dealers struggle to keep trucks in stock.
It’s up to dealers to explain the difference between the old and new 2022 Silverado models. There isn’t any paperwork or documentation that lists the difference.
What’s new for the 2022 Silverado?
The current 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 starts at $30,400. The new Chevy Silverado has a $2,100 upcharge due to its refresh, including slightly tweaked exterior features. It doesn’t have the LTD badge.
