The previous generation of the Chevrolet Corvette, the C7, set the bar pretty high for the Kentucky plastic fantastic. The naturally aspirated Z51 could hit 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds, and the supercharged Z06 and ZR1 had supercar-fighting track credentials. However, the newest C8 Corvettes are a quantum leap for the model, and its new platform makes the Corvette a bona fide American supercar. Moreover, the mid-engine C8 Corvette is swift enough to outrun these five supercars and hypercars, like the Audi R8 and Ferrari 458.

  • McLaren Senna
  • Ford GT
  • Ferrari 458
  • Audi R8
  • Lamborghini Aventador

Is the C8 Corvette faster than the McLaren Senna?

The C8 Corvette wouldn’t stand a chance against the light, purpose-built McLaren Senna around a track. However, the Chevy Corvette C8 is quicker to 60 mph than the million-dollar Senna hypercar. Specifically, the Senna, with its twin-turbocharged 4.0L V8, hits 60 mph in around 2.8 seconds. Officially, Chevrolet says the C8 will match that time, but a Z51-equipped C8 hit 60 mph in just 2.7 seconds

Is the Ford GT as fast as the C8 Corvette?

The Ford GT is a dedicated supercar with a racing pedigree, but it doesn’t accelerate as fast as Chevy’s latest C8 Corvettes. With its cacophonous carbon fiber and 647-horsepower twin-turbocharged V6, the GT hits 60 mph in 3.0 seconds. However, while the C8 outruns the GT to 60 mph, the GT finishes its quarter mile around 0.4 seconds quicker than the Corvette.

Also, the GT, which Ford built for track-day performance, returned a 1.11 g figure on Car and Driver’s roadholding skidpad test. That’s 0.08 g better than Corvette’s performance in the same test.

How fast is a Ferrari 458?

The Ferrari 458 is famously the benchmark Chevrolet aimed for with the C8 Corvette. The LT2 V8-powered Corvette might not sound like the high-revving 458’s 4.5L V8, which makes a sound that a Hollywood expert described as the best-sounding V8 on the market. However, in terms of acceleration, the Corvette is faster than the 458. The Ferrari 458 hits 60 mph in around 3.0 seconds.

Is an Audi R8 a supercar?

The Audi R8 is a supercar with grippy performance credentials and a bombastic V10 soundtrack. However, the R8 can’t outrun the Chevrolet Corvette. Specifically, the 562-horsepower R8 Performance will hit 60 mph in around 3.4 seconds. While that’s fast by most standards, it’s not up to the C8’s unbelievable thrust.

Moreover, the R8 can’t best the Corvette in the quarter mile either. Car and Driver estimates a standing quarter mile of around 11.5 seconds for the R8 or about 0.3 seconds behind the Corvette.

Is the C8 Corvette really as fast as a Lamborghini Aventador?

The latest Lamborghini Aventador accelerates just as fast as the Chevrolet underdog. However, previous iterations of the Aventador, like the SVJ Roadster, don’t quite outsprint the C8 Corvette. Instead, the 759-horsepower AWD Roadster hits 60 mph in just 2.8 seconds. That’s not commentary on the Aventador’s lack of acceleration, but rather a nod at how quick the latest Corvettes are.

Of course, most of these cars will outrun the Corvette in terms of top speed or track performance. Still, the Corvette Z06 is on the way, and it promises to deliver performance akin to world-class cars like the Ferrari 488 or Lamborghini Huracan. Fortunately for Corvette fans, the car stays true to its performance bargain appeal; it costs a fraction of what these cars demand.
