The Toyota Camry had a good year based on the numbers for Toyota’s year-end sales report for 2020. Overall, Toyota Motor North America (TMNA) sales were down 11.3% from 2019. In contrast, Lexus was only down 7.7%.

The Camry sold 294,342 units in the U.S. during 2020. That was down from 336,392 in 2019. In comparison, Corolla sold 116,915 in 2020 and 154,355 in 2019. The Avalon came in at 18,421 and 27,767 for both years. What makes the Camry so much more popular? It has a long history of reliability and dependability that most brands cannot come close to. While some might find the Camry a bit boring, it is an affordable sedan that is also quite safe. It makes sense so many shoppers agree that this Toyota sedan is worth buying.

Is the Camry a reliable car?

Based on the information by U.S. News, the 2021 Toyota Camry is one of the best midsize cars. It scored quite high in most tests, ahead of the Honda Accord and Subaru Legacy.

The popular pick has a comfortable ride, solid engine, and good fuel economy. Back through the year 2000, the Camry has pretty consistent high scores. Priced between $24,970 and $35,545, the Camry gets 49 miles per gallon on the highway and 20 in the city.

The 2021 Honda Accord came in with similar positive scores. It was priced between $24,970 and $36,900. The Subaru Legacy is priced at $22,895 to $36,145.

The Camry offers strong engine choices and enough cargo space to suit most driver’s needs. It ranks high on “best midsize car” lists year after year. If you are looking for a reliable car to get you through, the Camry is a safe bet.

Safety ratings and standard features

U.S. News gave the 2020 model the best midsize car for the money and the best midsize car for families. In 2021, it won the best midsize car for the cash again.

The Camry was revamped back in 2018 and received a significant update. Since then, Toyota has made only minor changes. A used Camry is refined, but Toyota added more standard safety features after 2018. Also, Apple CarPlay and Amazon Alexa were available in 2019.

As far as safety features, it received a 9.9/10. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) rated the rear crash, side-impact, and moderate overlap front test results “good.” That was enough to secure a Top Safety Pick award. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave the Camry five stars for overall, frontal, side, and rollover safety ratings. Standard safety features include blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and cross-traffic alerts.
